Relating Lorax to The White Bird by John Berger
The white bird essay written by John Berger is a complex essay that entails
about the aesthetic emotion. Aesthetic emotion is a contemporary beauty that driven
human to believe things that is a derivation of nature. The essay begins stating on how
the two pieces of pine wood turns out to be vibrant wooden birds. Like the white bird,
which is a man-made object with functional five categories which may be perfect as it
seem but behind lays a mystery of what really it signifies and quite beyond this
temporary perfection is a hidden truth of our nature.
The white bird can also be related to an artificial tree in the story of Lorax. It as a
man-made object which brings an aesthetic emotion that is a derivative of the emotion
on how we feel about nature. Our nature has been quite a mysterious existence that no
one knows what it wants to express. That is what was in the story of Lorax emphasized
as Lorax tells Ted that hes the guardian and thus he speaks for the trees. Our nature
has been our shelter from danger and our treasure in this world that is something being
borrowed. I think this is what white bird and Lorax wants us to understand that our
nature is something that can be broken when not being taking care of. It is a challenged
to all of us humanity to reveal the mystery brought by the white bird. That is the mystery
brought by an aesthetic emotion is only a temporary happiness, the art that mirrors the
creation in our nature. Somehow, beyond the feeling of playfulness, giddiness and fond
towards these man-made object lies a hurtful truth happening in our nature. We dont
know what already happened not unless we have seen the proof of destruction. We
dont have to see the balded mountain and freezing birds in order for us to take an
action towards nature. As a human being, we all have the calling to preserve our
environment and a moral duty to help our nature recover from the disaster.
Since our culture had also a great participation in our natures experienced
exploitation, it is very hard for some of us to accept the fact that we are already been
destructive, thus, we are destroying our future generations privilege to see the real
beauty of nature. And thus we are promoting, a mere fact of providing an instantaneous
art of comfort and feeling to our children. Art supposes that beauty is not an exception,
is not in despite of, but is the basis for an order, quoted by John Berger. Art is truly not
an exception for not to be part of an aesthetic emotion since art copies only the creation
and not the nature itself. Somehow, in my own understanding, aesthetic emotion is not
quite a good thing since it serves as a deception to our fragile humanity. We are easily
been shaken off just by a temporary feeling yet easily to be persuaded but hardly move.
I think what this essay of white bird wants us to see and understand is to be conscious
and aware of what was happening around us before we took an action without thinking
of impulsiveness.
