Topic: Negativism effects of physical punishment of children

Thesis statement: Punish children with physical punishment affects their behavior,

Abstract

Physical punishment of children is one of the world issues that part of people agree with it
and others disagree. This paper aimed to determine the effects of the physical punishment and
how this can affects their behavior, physiology, society and education. and it will support the
effects with some experiments. Also, this paper aimed to find other ways to punishment
children without having hart and what have parents to do with their children when they do
mistakes.

Introduction

Physical punishment is a hitting or beating that is called spanking and aimed to discipline.
The most people that face physical punishment are children. Gershoff (1999) has a report that
shows 94% of American parents spank their children. Also, she has a research that done on
88 students and it shows the relationship between physical punishment and students behavior.
Children is a people like adults that have feeling and their mistake. Punish children with
physical punishment affects their behavior, education, society and physiology and these
effects can be a negativism effects.

Statement of Problem

Children's discipline is one of the parents or adults duty in this world. In order to achieve this
duty, they use different ways to discipline children. As the physical punishment is the most
discipline used in the world, it is the most effect on the children. But what are the effects of
physical punishment on children? And how parents or adults can deal with these effects?

Proposed study

This project will be written to fulfill the writing project for Writing and Research 1312 which
is taught by Dr. Amani Al Ghamdi and this course is required in Price Mohammed
University's studding plan. In addition to that, this project will cover the problems that are
caused by physical punishment of children to show how these problems can affect our world
badly.

Scope of the study

Tuhaifa/ Negativism effects of physical punishment of children

To for looking into physical punishment of children problem, I plan to pursue the following
areas if inquiry:

• What kinds of punishment?

• What is the difference of physical punishment and discipline?

• What are the effects of the physical punishment of the children?

• What is the other ways that can be used to punishment children without hart
them?

Statement of qualifications

I have wrote numerical essays for previous courses which included definition, information,
argument and classification essay. Also I wrote definition research of Telephone which was
almost collecting of information. In addition to that I worked in research group for software
engineering course.

Review of the literature

The overarching purpose of this literature review is to develop a knowledge base for my
project that addresses the bade effects of physical punishment of children. The Gershoff, E.T.
(2008). THE CASE AGAINST CORPORAL PUNISHMENT OF CHILDREN, Smith, A.B.
(2006). The State of Research on the Effects of Physical Punishment and Hsi Yen, D. (2008).
Punishment does not work! will discuss how physical punishment could affects children
badly; such as, their confidence, IQ and behavior instead of stopping their bad behavior. Even
if it stop bad behavior, this will be for short time. The last article will support the others
articles with stories that show how physical punishment affect children.

The Rudy, M.E. (2009). Should Parents Use Corporal Punishment to Discipline Children?,
Ending Corporal Punishment of Children: Making it happen and Larzelere, R.E. (2002). A
Comparison of Two Recent Reviews of Scientific Studies of Physical Punishment the first one
shows the difference between discipline and physical punishment and some effects of
physical punishment. The second one shows the ways that can be used for punishment
instead of physical punishment of children and help parents to teach their children their
mistakes to avoid them in the future and the last one shows some studied about physical
punishment.

Research methods
Tuhaifa/ Negativism effects of physical punishment of children

This research will discuss the effect of physical punishment on children and how this can
affect them badly instead of changing their behavior to the beast. It will discuss the effects
separately. Also, it will support each one with a story and experiment. The research will
depend on Journals, articles and books.

The rational reason for the research

Children are the future of our world. Every change going to be in the world, whether this
change is good or not, depends on our children who will be the adults of the world’s future.
Due to that, when children grows healthy, they will help this world to be better than it is. But
physical punishment with its negativism effects can be obstacle against the development of
this world.

The outcome

This research will show that physical punishment does not work most of the time. Moreover,
it has lots of bad effects of children. Also, it will show some ways that help adults to deal
with children mistakes without hart them.

Conclusion

In the end, human in the childhood cannot differ easily between right and wrong which duty
of the adults comes to teach children how to avoid problems and mistake. But they have to
care of the way that they will use for discipline. And when children do mistakes, adults have
to be careful with the ways that they use for discipline because these ways could affect hole
children’s life.
