College of Commerce Organizational Structure

By nature, the organizational structure of the UST College of Commerce and Business
Administration (UST CCBA) is considered to have a functional and hierarchical structure
because of its appearance wherein it clearly shows the chain of command of the college. One
of the distinct characterizations of a functional structure is specialization, also hierarchical
structure because it also shows the levels and status of the members in the college.
As for in the commerce organizational structure is the coordinators (Institutional
Coordinator (Practicum Coordinator, Business Law & Taxation Coordinator, Math, Science & IT
Coordinator, Supervisor of Computer Laboratory).
The dotted line in the organizational structure which is, Institutional Coordinator and
the Practicum Coordinator represents weaker relationship or indirect reporting. The dotted line
still has a formal right to some part of the individuals time and attention and will usually set
some of goals. But it is not a strong relationship as a solid line. This means that the department
chairs still has a formal right to some part of the coordinators time and attention and will
usually set some of goals but department chairs does not need to get involved in the on-going
development of the coordinators individual or the administrative processes.
The College of Commerce also has a Coordinators affiliated with the dean connecting a
solid lines which are the (Community Development Coordinator, Library Coordinator,
Educational Technology Coordinator, Guidance Counselors). These are not included or affiliated
with the department chairs and these coordinators are specialist in their respective areas.
The five department heads of the college are (Finance, Human Resource, Economics,
Entrepreneur, Marketing) which is above the coordinators.
The College of Commerce has a grouped based on specialty, or functional area. They
also follows long chain of command as the coordinators report to the department head while
the department heads are under direct supervision of the Asst. Dean with the College Secretary
while the Asst. Dean and the College Secretary are under the supervision of the Dean. The
college also has a centralized organization in which the Dean together with the Regent are the
head body of the organizational structure of the College. Before the Dean and the Regent,
there is a dotted line in the structure before the Dean and the Asst. Dean connecting the
College Council. The Dean and the Regent clarifies and improves the decisions done by the
respective members.
The task are distributed clearly and rigidly governed by rules of UST from the dean as the
source of information to the faculty members.

Systems theory-It shows the organized structure of the College from the whole until the
sum of its parts.

Neoclassical organization theory-It describes the productivity in an organization with a

values and purpose applied. Like the Vision and Mission of the College.
Scientific management-It focuses on the people who are fit for the task. Like the Dean,
Assistant Dean, College Secretary Department Head of each major, and Coordinators.
Bureaucratic theory-The organization is based on the principles of structure
and specialization.
College of Rehabilitation Science Organizational Structure
An organizational chart is a diagram that represents the structure of an organization in
terms of relationships among departments. An organizational chart also represents lines of
authority and responsibility. An organizational chart is a horizontal or vertical tree that contains
geometric shapes to represent staff or divisions. The lines that connect the shapes indicate
relationships between the positions. An organizational chart indicates the formal structure of a
business or company.
In the other hand, the organizational structures of the UST College of Rehabilitation
Sciences (UST CRS) also have a functional and hierarchical structure because of its top-down
model that constructed squares representing the different modules in their college. The lines in
the chart are the connection or ownership between activities and sub-activities. One of the
divisions of the functional structure is specialization. The hierarchical structure also shows the
levels and status of the members in the college.
In CRS organizational structure the head of their college are the regent and dean. You
can also see that only solid lines connect all of the personnel in the CRSs organizational chart.
In a standard organizational chart, solid lines depict a formal and direct relationship between
positions like between the superior and subordinate.
Compare and Contrast:

The College of Commerce and Business Administration's organizational structure is

functional, in which they are designated in their respective expertise, and hierarchical in nature
which is the same with the College of Rehabilitation Science's organizational structure. Both
colleges practice hierarchy among its seated officers, with tasks delegated with a top-down
approach. The CRS and CCBA's organizational structures both has the dean as the head of their
colleges. These colleges apply centralized organization, where decisions and information comes
from the dean, and it is disseminated among the faculty. Also, both colleges educate to produce
globally competitive Thomasian leaders.
Although, in the organizational chart of CRS there are no broken lines connecting
individual officers which shows a direct and solid connection within the college, as to what is
practiced in CCBA wherein there are broken lines which implies weaker connection or indirect
connecting between officers. In addition, the professors of the two college has different
profession.
