5.3 INTERPRETATIONS
1. Thet test reveals that significant difference exists between IX standard
boys and girls in their intrapersonal intelligence. That is girls high school
students (m=22.89) are better than boys IX standard students (m=21.34).
This may be due to the fact that by nature girls students used to be aware of
their disabilities. They use to do meditation and pray well. So they have
clear idea about themselves and hence they have better than boys
Intrapersonal Intelligence.
2. The t test reveals that significant difference exists between nuclear and
joint family IX standard students in their intrapersonal intelligence. That is
nuclear family IX standard students (m=22.91) are better than joint family
(m=20.91) IX standard students. This may be due to the fact that the nuclear
family IX standard students feel always loneliness. They do not get any
chance share anything with others. But at the same time they evaluate all
their activities in their better than the joint family students. Hence they have
high Intrapersonal Intelligence
3. The chi-square result reveals that there is association between fathers
education and Intrapersonal Intelligence of IX standard students. It may be
due to the fact that educated fathers give more attention to their academic
performance and helps them to identify the skills and talents of their
children. It helps them to easily proceed to achieve their goals. It can also
develop their intrapersonal intelligence.
4. Thet test reveals that significant difference exists between Tamil and
English medium high school students in their self-confidence. That is
English medium high school students (m=60.58) are better than Tamil
medium high school students (m=57.01). This may be due to the fact that
the English medium IX standard students have a lot of opportunities to
develop their skills. They show leadership quality and they are aware of
their potentialities and talents. They appreciate others for their good
qualities and talents. They offer useful suggestions to others for their
development. English medium schools conduct number of life oriented

94

programmes and activities and hence they are more Self-confidence than
Tamil medium students.
5. Thet test reveals that, urban IX standard students (m=61.05) are better than
rural IX standard students (m=57.01) in their self-confidence. This may be
due to the fact that the students who live in urban areas do not afraid of
anything. They feel that they are in safe and able to adjust themselves at any
situation. They have lot of opportunities such as puzzles, logical test
compared to the rural students. This helps the students to increase Self
Confidence whereas rural students have less facilities for developing ones
capacity for problem solving.
6. Thet test reveals that, days scholar students (m=58.71) are better than
hostel IX standard students (m=54.79) in their self-confidence. This may be
because the hostel students lack care and affection from their parents. Days
scholar students get a lot of facilities for developing their skills. They are
very active in the classroom as well as they do their homework properly.
They have always innovative ideas. Therefore, they are eager to achieve
their goals. Hostel students lack care and affection from their parents. They
may get appreciation from their parents for their achievement in various
fields. Hence days scholar students have more self-confidence than hostel
students.
7. The F test shows that (m=64.43) IX standard girls school students are
better than the boys (m=58.20) and co-education (m=56.75) IX standard
students in their self-confidence. This may be due to the fact that girls have
many responsibilities from childhood. They have ability to solve the
problems themselves at any situation. This may help them to have Self
Confidence.
8. The F test shows that government school (m=64.43) IX standard students
are better than private (m=59.18) and aided (m=53.35) in their Self
Confidence. This may be due to the fact that students who are studying in
government schools, they know their skills and talents. They speak in any
common meeting without any fear. They have attitude to slove any
problems. They always join with their friends. So they are better than aided
and private school students in Self-confidence.
9. The chi-square result shows that there is association between fathers
income and self-confidence of high school students. Fathers income
95

indicates that there is satisfaction of basic needs in the family. Once the
basic needs are satisfied then aspire for greater things in life. Fathers
income satisfy the basic needs of the family. So students need not worry
about economic problems and their future. These make them to have
positive attitude to reach their goal and hence they have more Selfconfidence.
10. Significant relationship exists between intrapersonal intelligence and Self
Confidence of IX standard boys. Generally IX standard boys are much
interested in participating games and social activities to show their own
abilities and talents present. They have keen interest in entertainment
activities and have capacity to take decision on their own. Therefore, they
have good self-confidence.
