Guidelines for Assignment 1

UECM2213 Data Analysis
Instructions:
1) This assignment contributes 20% of the total assessment of this course.
Each part of the assignment carries different marks.
2) Student is required to submit their assignment report to the lecturer on or
before 5.00pm,28th March 2015.
3) The assignment report should type out using Microsoft Word or Latex.
You need to submit the softcopies as well.
4) Student should not wait for the lecturer to cover certain topics in the
syllabus. They should study and understand the methods applied in the
assignment before the lectures. Student is advised to begin to write their
assignment as early as possible.
5) If the content of the assignment (fully or partially) were copied, duplicated
or translated from other sources or other persons works, it will be
considered as cheating case, and hence no mark will be given to this
assignment. This is strict rule.
6) This assignment is individual work. So if the works are done in groups, the
report must contain their contribution. Mark will be split according to the
contribution.
7) You need to get the report as like research manuscript not less than 4
pages. The submitted article will be assessed by a student as well as
lecturer.
8) 4 Pages only for text based report, should not include figures, charts, etc.,
in the 4 pages. Move figures, calculation, programs and tables to
appendix. Refer the template.
8) Email
the
softcopy
of
your
data
set
to
lecturer
to
jeevas@utar.edu.mytogether with the softcopy (in pdf format) of your
manuscript. Other relevant documents or materials used are attached as
appendix.

Report for Assignment 1.

The report (similar to a journal article) must contain the following
information:
1) Title of the study
2) Name of the students (with students ID) and university name.
3) An abstract not more than 100 words.
4) Introduction consists of motivations/why you chose the
dataset/research problems, objectives/hypothesis, analysis that you
have used and scope of study.
5) According to your data, add literature review of 3 related research
articles.

6) In Methodology section that discusses the data collection method,

the process you followed for data analysis, sampling method,
statistical methods used and other relevant information.
7) The next section is Analysis
8) In Discussion, give your understanding, and discuss about various
possibilities of your analysis.
9) Add a Conclusion section that conclude the study (achievement of
the study), reporting the limitations of the study and future works.
10) References
11) Appendix if any.

he/she needs to submit an individual review report to the lecturer. This

For Grammatical/ typo errors and Formatting problems, student will obtain
ONE mark for every two valid criticism provided with the maximum of TWO
marks for each section. For other sections, student will obtain ONE mark for
one valid criticism provided with the maximum of FOUR marks.

How to submit your report?

Hardcopy:
1. 4 Page article report with your result.
2. Appendices Figures, Calculations, Charts, any other related info
3. Any other infographic you want to add it to the report.
Softcopy:
1. Datasets that you have used for Analysis
2. Your report in MS Document or Latex format (Must include all figure,
chart, etc.,).
3. Your report in pdf format
4. Your programs or MS Excel file or SPSS file or any
5. Any other file you have used it for this assignment.
Name your files like this:
yourregistrionid_data yourregistrionid_report
yourregistrionid_program etc.,
For example:
11023569_Data, 11023569_report

Submission Deadline:
You must submit the softcopy of the report on or before 28-March2016, 8pm to my email address.
Send your files only from your official UTAR ID. Use the subject
Assignment 1 Submission - yourregistrationid . If you dont put

correct subject line your email may end up at spam hence may be
noted as assignment not submitted.
You must submit the hardcopy of the report on the class on 28-March2016. Evaluation will be in the class itself.
