Kindergarten Newsletter
May 2010

Hello Parents,

May is going to come and go by so fast. Hold on to your seats for the
busiest month of the school year. The students have learned and have
grown so much these past months. I am very proud of what they have
accomplished this year. I have grown so attached to them and I will miss
them all. Thonh you all so much for your support and help. The following
are some very important dates to add to your calendar. I will also send
more info as the events get closer.

May 5 No lower school Mass


May 7 Mother's Day Mass-8:20 gym
May17 Stick horse project is due
May 21 Kinder Rodeo & Cook-Out
May 27 Early Dismissal -1 :00
May 28 Kinder Public Class and Recognition Program
Gomez-Uranga and Mrs. Merrill at 8:30 - Black Box
Theater.
May 28 Last day of School

*Mothers Day Mass-May 7, 8:20- Students may sit with their


mothers, before mothers leave for the brunch, please have your child find
me in the gym after Mass.After the brunch, please come to the classroom,
your child will have a gift for you.

*Kindergarten Rodeo & Stick horse contest- Students will


be given their last big assignment, with help from family members,
students will mohe a sticR horse for the much anticipated Kinder Rodeo.
This is an assigned Social Studies project. Students will be graded on
creativity, originality, and if procedures were followed. SticR horses must
be homemade, not store bought. The sticR horse must have a long enough
sticRfor the student to ride. This day will be pecked with rodeo fun. Some
of the activities include barrel racing, calf roping, the quarter horse race,
cow patty toss, camp fire songs with a real cowboy, and good old fashion
cook-out for lunch. Each family will be assigned an item to bring for the
cook-out, You can't have a rodeo without a horse- so get started on
maRing that stieR horse-- more details to come

May 27- Early dismissal 1 :00 --Bring a board game to school,


(for 2-4 players), if you have a jump rope, colored sidewalR cholh, bubbles,
or a basRetball these items are also needed (no video games or toys).

Public Class-May 28, - 8:30 in the Bloch Box Theater.


Mrs. Gomez-Uranga's classand Mrs. Merrill's classwill demonstrate all that
they have learned this year. Public Class Remincler • Please practice with
your child mental math such as doubles and doubles plus one, simple
addition and subtraction, sight words, and can read and spell color and
number words. Students should be dressed in their dress uniform-looRing
their very best.

May 28-9:30 -10: 15 Kindergarten Recognition Program -


together the classeswill perform a short program full of songs and poetry
in the Bloch Box Theater immediately following the public class.The
program will be followed by each student receiving a certificate of
completion. Afterwards, we will all go outside to the lower courtyard for
snochs and good-byes. The students are then dismissed to their parents.

Religion- Glorious Mysteries, Pentecost, Ascension, May


Crowning of Mary, Birth of the Church, Hierarchy of the church

Math-Addition of two digit numbers, subtraction, double facts


plus one, leaning to spell number words, odd and even
numbers, skip counting, time, money, Saxon lessons 75-100

Language Arts-nouns, pronouns, verbs, punctuation, writing


simple sentences, phonetic spelling, writing short stories

Phonics! Reading- sight words, long vowels, blends, digraphs,


letter clusters, controlled "r"(or,er, ur, ar, ir) silent letters
(kn, igh, & ph), compound words, contractions, diphthongs
(ou,ow,oi,oy) synonyms, and antonyms

Handwriting- writing in journals, copying bible verses,


practicing and reviewing letter formation

Social Studies! Science- International Awareness, Texas,


project= stick horse, Spring, butterflies, insects, solar system,
dinosaurs
