Today, more than ever, building programs must be carried

out with greater efficiency and productivity. In order to
prosper, developers and builders emulate more and more
the manufacturing sector where speed, efficiency,
management and logistical control are critical.
By increasing productivity to levels commonly achieved
by manufacturers, builderscosts, completion times and
quality levels are substantially improved.
Outinord has been a pioneer and leader in the
mechanization of the building process. Builders who begin
using Outinord-developed technology and systems will
immediately achieve efficient labor utilization, speed up the
construction process and improve their on-site logistics and
scheduling control.
This improvement in results is consistent and verified by
more than 8,000,000 Outinord built dwellings throughout the
world. The effectiveness of Outinords construction technology
makes us a genuine partner of our colleagues in the
construction industry.
Owners and Developers:
Benefit from accurate completion schedules, time and cost
savings. This permits clients to build a better structure (often
with added sales appeal), accurately forecast move-in dates,
reduce costs (which may be used to add features or lower
prices below those of competitive projects), as well as
optimize profits.

Designers and Architects:

Benefit from superior design freedom, dimensional accuracy,
predictable inspection scheduling and quality control.

Builders, General Contractors and Sub-Contractors:

Benefit from predictable labor utilization, efficient logistical
control, repetitive tasks and a measurable production output.
Outinord is proud to show in this brochure a selection of
successful and interesting projects built by our worldwide
clientele.

Superior Quality
of Outinord construction include:

- Daily production cycle

- Faster project completion (thanks to repetitive tasks and the
daily production cycle)
- Predictable scheduling and project completion dates
These are important and relevant advantages that will
accelerate income and increase profits.

- Monolithic reinforced concrete structures require low

maintenance and resist damage caused by weather, insects,
seismic shocks, tornadoes and other high wind forces.
- Durable steel forms produce smoother wall finishes requiring
minimal patching.
- Dimensional accuracy allows the industrialization of
follow-on trades (plumbing, electrical, cabinetry and interior
finishing).

efficiency.
- The smooth surface of load bearing walls offers significant
advantages over column and beam structures.
- The quantity of reinforcement steel needed for cast-in-place
concrete structures is 20% less than that required for similar
structures built with column and beam design.
These savings are equally available to buildings erected in
seismic areas:
- The elimination of columns optimizes the net usable
floor area.
- The durability of solid concrete walls is superior to masonry
construction.
- Interior partition walls may also be cast simultaneously in
the daily pour.

>The More
Efficient Load Distribution
load bearing wall structure incorporates significant
technical benefits:
- A better distribution of stress related to the buildings own
weight.
- Improved load distribution considerably simplifies and
lightens the foundation design.
- Improved sound insulation due to the density of the
structures solid concrete walls and slabs.
- Limited risk of crack formation due to the use of
homogeneous materials.
- Improved lateral load resistance as a result of the
simultaneous pour of walls and slabs; the cold joint is
eliminated.

The load bearing wall design combined with the monolithic
pour process produces strong structures more capable of
resisting seismic shock waves and high wind forces. The
monolithic structure, incorporating longitudinal walls,
produces a rigid, three-dimensional support network.

Hundreds of thousands of quakeproof apartments have been

For hurricane prone Puerto Rico, the all concrete
house is the preferred choice. The Outinord system
allows the production of 1 house per day,
consistently and with a superior concrete finish.
Due to the present labor shortages in Puerto Rico,
the efficiency of Outinord formwork allows the
builder to maintain a high volume of production
with a small work force.
It also helps to meet the schedule and to deliver
homes as promised.

Several determining elements allowed us to set our
choice on Outinord.
First, it enabled us to verify product quality with
each casting we also noted a significant reduction
in construction time and costs. In addition, we could
also eliminate some masonry and coating tasks. In
order to remain in the projects time limits, we were
obliged to order and use several sets of formwork.
The initial investment, although a factor, was
successfully amortized during the operation.
In spite of frequent poor weather conditions, we kept
to the daily rotation rhythm. This allowed us to
meet the project deadlines.
We have other advantages in addition to the quality
and the speed of completion:
A monolithic structure that suppresses all forms of
disjunction through use of different materials.
Economies on standing costs because of a quicker
achievement of the work as well as related labor
economies.
We have been in relation with Outinord for quite a
few years; their competence and experience have
proved to be quite useful to us for this operation.

We are building the 2nd phase of apartments at
Piaseczno using tunnel formwork purchased in
1993. These forms are in excellent, like-new
condition after 160 uses.
The rapid speed of the Outinord System has
allowed us to save at least 10% overall compared
to the traditional construction methods used in
Poland. Previously, it took us four months to build
a housing project using our traditional methods.
With Outinord formwork, we were able to build
twice as many identical structures in the same
time period. As a result, we are able to deliver
the apartments sooner and benefit from a quicker
return on our investment.

Contractor:

Five double buildings of
five levels each, the four
upper levels being reserved
for the apartments.
The project represents a
total of 480 dwellings.

We have modified the original plans from column

and beam to a load bearing wall structure. This
has not changed the aspect of the architecture.
We were able to retain the overall look, as well as
the symmetrical split wing design, which was
used to form an attractive interior garden.
On the other hand, the load bearing wall
structure is an asset as regards the strength of
buildings and its monolithic construction awakens
a feeling of security.
The thin compactness of load bearing walls also
allows us to gain interior dwelling space on the
total area built.
Due to the rapid construction speed, the lesser
required quantities of reinforcement steel and the
more efficient worksite organization, we predict
we will enjoy economies between 10 and 15 % of
the cost of the complete project, compared to a
traditional construction solution.

Carlos Alfredo VARGAS DAVILA

General Contractor
We previously built 400 apartments a year using
traditional methods. Faced with the challenge to
boost our annual production to 1,200 or 1,500
units, we had to explore ways to reorganize our
construction methods from the conventional,
which required lots of masonry work and produced
an unsatisfactory quality, to a faster industrialtype production. We studied various alternatives
and selected the Outinord system, an industrialized
process that brings us repetitive work tasks. This
allowed us to increase production with great labor
efficiency. It also allows us to check progress and
quality more easily. By using traditional masonry
for facades, we can retain the regional
architectural character of our buildings so much

appreciated by our customers. We chose the

Outinord system because of the easy reuse of the
equipment over several operations and the
possibility to vary the facades. We are also able to
make more rational use of our manpower. The
process lets us incorporate plumbing and electrical
conduits into the load bearing concrete shell.
Despite using thinner walls and slabs (80 mm walls
and 100 mm slabs), we have met the demanding
seismic standards of the local building code. Our
concrete was designed at 5000 psi so as to avoid
overnight heating while still maintaining a daily
rotation cycle. After working with this system for
several years, the balance is very positive. We meet
our deadlines, stay within budget, improve quality
and still continue to increase production rates and
profitability.

James ISABIRYE
B.Sc (Civil Eng.) Managing Director
Only Outinord technology could allow us to build
a whole city at this pace!
Our delivery deadlines were tight and we had to
simultaneously start a number of buildings; in
spite of this everything turned out well.
Outinord advised us during the whole project,
whether it were for the preparation and use of
the formwork, or in the best ways to manage the
supplies of concrete and reinforcement.
It is also thanks to Outinord that we were able to
set up a more rational manufacturing process of
facades. These were made in concrete, in a
second phase, with molds especially made to that
effect. The coated masonry facades were
eliminated, which allowed us to have much less
labor on the work site.
With an average of 640 m2 of concrete cast on a
daily basis, the projects 5500 dwellings were
completed in three years, light finishing work
included.

Honesto T.MEDINA
Operations Manager
We had eighteen months to complete the entire
project, building trades and other finishing works
included. We quickly determined that conventional
building methods would not work. It would take
3 to 4 times as many engineers and workers (at
tremendous increase in cost) to meet the new
deadline. Thus, we had to find a cost-effective,
industrialized construction process to achieve our
cost and time objectives. We found the answer in
Outinord, a process that not only reduced our
manpower needs, it also allowed us to organize
a perfect logistical control among the various
sub-contractors, suppliers of material and other
site-related tradesmen and deliveries. This, together
with the clean well-organized work site, which
allowed us to reduce construction site accidents,
was an important source of economy. Finally, we
eliminated scaffolding (which obstructs movement
on the job site) and obtained a high quality
concrete wall and slab surface (which enabled us to
reduce our finishing costs). The results are very
satisfactory. And although we had to (slightly)
change our original plans when converting to a load
bearing wall structure, we benefited from greater
resistance against earthquakes, better acoustics
and increased fire repelling.

Boris DOBACHINE
Assistant General Manager KROST
Our company has been using the Outinord
construction process for a year and a half now and
we have already defined a cooperation program
for the year to come.
Effectively, the Outinord method is at the peak of
its efficiency when we can link one work site after
another. For each of the new operations,
Outinords technical assistance department makes
a study of the reuse of the formwork and
recommends ways they can be adapted for
changing conditions.
For the Jukova work site, we have cast an average

of 175m2 of slabs per day, which allowed us to

produce the structural shell of a 17 story building
in only four months. Without such an efficient
system, we would have needed at least
2 additional months. Casting slabs and walls at
the same time and repeating these operations on
a daily basis, increases the work sites production
rate.
When we first looked into the Outinord process,
we were concerned about the initial investment
required. But we quickly realized that the improved
quality and increased speed far outweighed the
initial cost which could be quickly amortized. In
other words, we could not afford to not purchase
the formwork!

At a consistent production rate of
80 apartments per month, we were able to
complete the concrete structure of this
downtown project on time and within budget.
The owners like the high quality reinforced
concrete structure of these buildings and have
asked us to build several similar projects in Dallas
and other cities. The Outinord system is well
engineered; combined with our specific high-rise
knowledge and highly productive crews, we feel
we have an edge in the competitive US market.

This tower is the highest one built in Jakarta
using load bearing wall structure. Two sets of
forms and two separate work crews rotate the
forms on either side of a core area. Subsequently,
both formwork sets are combined to form a
central junction of the two towers. This requires
precise construction scheduling and management
coordination. The central core is formed in
advance using semi-climbing Outinord formwork.
The prefabricated facades are produced on-site
and are installed using a stabilizer, thus
considerably reducing the crane time required.
We were also able to optimize the structure by
reducing wall thickness on the upper levels.

Building of a 390 room
hotel quite close to the
airport.
This is a building
in two parts:
Atrium on 6 levels and
Courtyard on 4 levels.

The Outinord solution was chosen for its speed. The

customers had a three and a half-month deadline to
complete the structural shell. With Outinord, they knew they
could produce four rooms per day with every set of forms.
In the process, they also greatly appreciated the quality of the
surface obtained which allowed them to directly place the
wallpaper ; plus the ceilings could be painted after a simple,
preparatory application. The accuracy of dimensional and
geometrical tolerances was such that they had no trouble
in quickly integrating the prefabricated bathroom cabins.
These were brought up to room level, rolled inside, and rapidly
connected to the plumbing and electrical conduits. Similar
simple methods were used for placing the prefabricated
facades, which were bolted on sockets pre-positioned in
the concrete.
They appreciated Outinords assistance during the entire
project.
Some of their workmen were already familiar with this
method; others quite quickly adapted to it.
This building technique is particularly well adapted to hotel
construction.

We are building this hotel at the rate of 8 rooms
per day and expect to complete the room structures
in 3 months.
The Outinord system was easily adapted to the
particular shape of this building. We dont have
parallel walls and therefore the roofpanels are of
trapezoidal shape. In spite of this complexity and
the weather conditions in this ocean side location,

MEP Anglais MEP Anglais 18/07/10 12:56 Page63

we have been able to maintain our construction

schedule. Although the initial investment is high,
we selected the Outinord system for their superior
service and for the excellent concrete quality we
manage to achieve. Outinord has a strong presence
in our business and we are well aware of their
capabilities.

The approp
OUTINORD has designed 2 distinct systems to produce
load bearing wall structures. For repetitive
architectural layouts, the tunnelform system is
recommended. In other cases the wallform system
will be preferred.

At all times our priority centers around mechanization

of the on-site production. In both systems the
formwork is planned for a daily re-use. The same
crew operates the equipment in predetermined
construction phases on a daily cycle.
In general, they are reused from 800 to 1000 times.

>TheseTunnelforms
forms allow the daily pouring of walls, slabs and starter
walls for the next phase of production. Depending on the
project schedule, a typical tunnelform phase may involve the
production of 1 or several apartments or houses; the daily
production may vary from 80 m2 to 350 m2 of floor area.
On some high volume projects a production of 1200 to
1500 m2 of floor area has been reached.
The daily cycle can be broken down as follows:
- stripping forms from the previous days pour.
- installation of forms for todays pour, incorporating door and
windowblockouts, as well as plumbing stacks and electrical
wiring.

- installation of wall and slab reinforcement steel.

- the concrete pour, followed where needed by the heat
curing process.
Depending on the architectural design, the open ends of the
tunnelformed structure may be closed by either prefabricated
or poured in place facade elements.

>Wallforms
Wallforms
are used in the same basic sequence as tunnelforms,
except that only walls are poured. A typical wallform production
unit will complete 20 to 60 linear meters of wall per day.
Combined with special angle forms, the modular wallforms can
be adapted to a new configuration on a daily basis.

for use on-site. The precast concrete elements can be

integrated in the tunnelform or wallform production cycle,
prior to the installation of the finishings, such cabinets,
kitchens and sanitary fixtures.

The task of Outinords consultants and jobsite
technicians is to assist contractors with the
efficient preparation and start-up of the
projects.
>Outinords
Production start-up
field technicians have a dual task:
-Verification and acceptance, as well as supervision of the
formwork assembly process.
-Training of the crew and implementation of the planned
construction phases, until the scheduled level of production
has been achieved.
This work implies close communication with the entire project
staff, the foremen and workers. The focus is on optimization
of material supplies, the use of equipment and human
resources.
