INTRODUCTION:As we started our project in 3 SEM, we were looking for solution for the most
dreaded issue our country and mostly metro cities are facing these days. Yes you
guessed it right traffic control and also issue related to it pollution control.
We have come a long way finding its solution from where we started .initially
we were working to channelize the traffic which then leaded to a series of inputs
from along the members involved and that resulted to a more systematic and
countering wider issues then we thought of initially.
We are now in position to purpose the idea that will give a boost to the mission
purposed by our beloved prime-minister M.R Narendra Modi of making 100
smart cities across the country.
The product that is developed is named as I-STUMP.
Following are the list of purpose it will help in resolving.

1) Traffic congestion.
2) Pollution control.
3) Lesser accidental casualties.
4) Keeping antisocial activities under check.
5) Smooth flow of traffic.

2. Modelling and Analysis using Software:


We basically used mutisim software to demonstrate the control logic
involved. On the basis of the traffic situation prevailing at the cross road it will actuate
the stump which will lift up.
Once it has been lifted up the vehicles will have to halt up until it gets back down
again.

When the traffic would approach to congestion level the sign of


Caution will be displayed on seven segment display.
When the congestion occurs I-stump will rise up above the base level
And will function as a divider so that traffic moves in a line.
Here the circuit has been implemented using AND logic the IC-7408.

3) Engineering Economics of Design:


Though cost is bit on a higher side due to various sensors involved like seismic
sensor, pressure sensor, carbon emission sensor as well as due to actuator, but
analyzing it on basis of performance to price ratio it will be proven as budget
friendly though not on short run but on long run indeed.
The system used here is automated for its use, Hence no man power needed on
site for its operation or handling hence resulting in no recurring charges once
the system is developed. Though it is required to check for its calibration every
15-30 days.
We have to use that type of material which have a high strength and
Able come out easily. So we should use stainless steel to make I-stump
Which is free from corrosion.

4) Design for Use, Reuse and Sustainability:The construction of mechanical equipments along with the actuator system
which will be driven by transducer taking its input logic from control system.
Once the product is developed it would sustain in for years to come with its
control system checked periodically.
The control unit may be required to be re calibrated based on the drift in
parameters related to change in temperature and pressure over time.
The mechanical system like actuator will work for the years to come without
requiring any periodical maintenance.

5) Proto-typing:The control logic which is demonstrated using multi-sim software can be


implemented using cascaded AND Logic using IC-7408.
In order to indicate the commuters that stump are about to rise up caution signal will
be displayed which is demonstrated in the circuit prototype developed by red leds
glowing.
Similarly when stump rises up that is actuator receives the control signal from the
control circuit is demonstrated here by white leds glowing.

6) Testing the prototype:In order to improve efficiency of the control logic and to improving
power handling capabilities cascaded AND logic can be replaced using
multiplexer circuit. The drift in parameters caused due to variation in
temperature and
Pressure is null corresponding to multiplexer as an input. Hence possibility
of error creeping in is avoided completely with use of multiplexer circuit.

7) Implementation on circuit board:The control logic is developed on bread board for testing purposes. Once it
has been tested thorough enough the design logic can be iterated on printed
circuit board.

8) Traffic control techniques presently employed and changes after developing


the product:Presently, traffic is controlled by traffic police which are constantly under
effect of air, noise pollution which effect their health seriously and also
commuters try to bypass them many a times by paying challan in lieu of
saving time. So they tend to not follow traffic rules resulting in chaos many
a times.

By employing the system purposed the traffic will flow smoothly in a line.
Without creating a chaos and also no man power will be needed to control
the traffic.

9) Conclusion:-

The product I stump is a foot forward to change the traffic problem


prevailing in major metro cities of India. It would prove as a landmark for
automation industry and will help in regulating traffic flow.
