HydraulicPresses
Hydraulicpressesareapowerfulclassofmachinetools,theyderivetheenergytheydeliverthrough

MechanicalPresses
Mechanicalpressesbelongtoaclassofmachinetoolsthatencompassawiderangeofdifferent
machinetypes.Primarily,themechanicalpresstransformstherotationalforceofamotorintoa
translationalforcevectorthatperformsthepressingaction.Therefore,theenergyinamechanical
presscomesfromthemotor.Thesetypesofpressesaregenerallyfasterthanhydraulicorscrew
presses,(actuallythescrewpressmayalsobeclassifiedasamechanicalpress).Unlikesome
presses,inamechanicalpress,theapplicationofforcevariesinbothspeedandmagnitude
throughoutthedistanceofthestroke.Whenperformingamanufacturingoperationusinga
mechanicalpress,thecorrectrangeofthestrokeisessential.
Pressesarechosenbasedonthecharacteristicsofthemanufacturingprocess.Mechanicalpress
machinetoolsarecommonlyusedinmetalforgingmanufacture,andsheetmetalworking.The
desiredapplicationofforcewilldictatethetypeofmachinerequired.Extrusionwilloftennecessitatea
moreconsistentforceoveralongerdistance.However,amechanicalpressmayoftenbeagood
