SS-C111 Fabrication & Erection of Structural Steel

On completion of erection, all temporary bracing field erection bolts shall be removed and the
boltholes plugged and made good to the satisfaction of the RT Company Representative.

12.3 Metal Floor Decking

Floor plate units shall be adjusted to final position and brought to proper bearing on the
supporting members before being permanently fastened.
Floor plate units shall be fastened to intermediate supports via 22mm diameter plug welds
spaced at a maximum of 450mm centres and as otherwise noted. Floor plate units shall be seal
welded to the supporting structure between plates and at perimeter to prevent ingress of
moisture. Where floor plate units are located in a structure that requires a humid or wet service
Paint Specification, floor plate units shall also be seal welded on the underside to the supporting
steelwork, except where prior written approval from the RT Company Representative has been
given.

12.4 Floor Grating

The extent of floor grating and stair treads shall be as nominated on the Drawings.
Grating shall be cut and strengthened as required to suit services and equipment penetrations
as indicated on RT Standard Drawing B-009-314. All such openings shall be neatly trimmed
and banded.
The preferred method of fastening grating sections is to use standard proprietary saddles fixed
to supporting steelwork using 8mm diameter thread-cutting fasteners. Grating fixings are to be
installed according to the Manufacturers specification: fasteners are to be installed at 500
nominal centres along supporting steelwork (approximately 3 per m2 where span is +/- 1500,
approximately 5 per m2 where span is +/- 750mm). A minimum of four fasteners is required per
panel. Main bars and cross rods of adjacent sections shall be in line.
In areas where vibration and/or shock loads may be sufficient to release standard fixings,
Magna-Lok Structural Blind Rivets - MGLP-R8 & self-locking fastener or similar shall be used in
place of self-tapping fasteners stated above. Holes shall be pre-drilled using 6.7mm (17/64)
drills.
Powder actuated fastening system i.e. Hilti X-BT is a preferred method for fastening grating
where panels are subject to removal on a regular basis and in areas on structures that are
subject to vibration and/or shock loads.
Welding is the least preferred method to fasten the grating, as care must be taken to prepare
the site and reinstate the coating post-welding. Grating is to be welded with 5mm x 25mm long
fillet weld at 1000mm centres a minimum of four welds per panel. Weld locations are to be
wire brushed and cold galvanised post weld. Welding shall only be used with the approval of
the RT Company Representative.

12.5 Erection Tolerances

Erection tolerances shall be in accordance with AS 4100.
Runway beam and rail tolerances for overhead cranes shall not exceed those given in AS
1418.1, unless otherwise agreed.

12.6 Setting of Baseplates

Baseplates shall be set and shimmed to correct positions and elevations as shown on the
Drawings. They shall be subject to review after placing, plumbing and aligning the first lift.
Errors shall be corrected before proceeding further.
