CONTROL CHART FOR ATTRIBUTES

Laboratory

PPC Laboratory, Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering

Course Code

BMFP 2223

Course Title

QUALITY CONTROL

Semester

II - 2015/2016

Experiment Title

Quality Control: Control Charts for Attributes

1.0

LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the experiment, the students should be able to:

2.0

a.

Apply quality control tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Process
Capability techniques for analyzing attributes data.

b.

Apply the concept of control charts for attributes.

c.

Develop skills in construct and interpreting control charts.

d.

Use and understand the process capability concept.

INTRODUCTION
Many quality characteristics cannot be conveniently represented numerically or variables
data. Quality characteristics of this type are called attributes. This experiment was
designed as a model to demonstrate an application of control chart for attributes. There
are two different groups of control charts for attributes. One group of charts is for
nonconforming units and the other group of charts is for nonconformities.
These experiments were designed as models to demonstrate
a production process. For any production process, some method of evaluating the quality
of the process and/or product is needed. A control chart displays successive means of
measurements from a process with upper and lower control limits drawn on either side of
the process average.

THE TEAM
The experimental will be conducted by 4-5 members per team. Your team will be
provided;
1) Stamping Part for QC Attributes experiment

4.0

TASKS & QUESTIONS

QC Attributes
1. Referring to Appendix A, using visual inspection to inspect good and reject part of
the stamped part.
Part rejected is based on the number of dented (scratches only). Reject part if the
number of dented on one part is 3 or more. Use 8 to 10 samples sizes for 10 to 12
subgroups. Designing a form will be helpful in collecting the experimental. Show the
form you constructed before doing measurement. What is the benefit using the form
in collecting the data?
2. After collecting the data, construct the appropriate control charts. From the chart,
determine the centerline and control limits.
3. Give an example application of control charts for attributes for manufacturing and
non-manufacturing environments.
