EVACUATION PROCEDURE

DROP COVER & HOLD

Warning and Alarms:


Siren/Audio system and/or verbal warning will notify staff for
evacuation after the earthquake is over

Prior to Exiting:
Stop working and turn off the computer if time permits after hearing
alarm
Close the door (but not lock) if time permits
Take personal valuables, purses/money bag, money, mobile
phone. But don't waste time searching for your valuables

DROP

COVER

After exiting:

DROP down on the floor

When Exiting:
Walk, dont run
Do not use elevator or lift. Use stairs or emergency exit doors
Move outside to the assembly point
Help children or persons with disability to evacuate the
building
As you walk stay clear of building, trees, poles, streetlights, power line/signs etc.

EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS

Section Chiefs/designated Floor wardens to conduct head count to


ensure that everybody is evacuated, stay with your floors
Floor Wardens to check & report injuries to the Security
Specialist or SOC, WBOD -4021 or cell 01711-596030
SOC to organize search, if safe for those missing staff (if any)
Staff shouldnot return to the office until it is declared safe by SOC
or Security Specialist

Take COVER under a sturdy


desk, table or other furniture. If
not possible, seek cover
against an interior wall and
protect your head with arms

HOLD

If you take cover, HOLD on to


it until the ground stops
shaking and it is safe to move
or exit as advised

I N DOORS AT THE OFFICE


Before the Earthquake
look around for a safe place- a sturdy desk/table or interior wall
away from windows, shelves or furniture that may fall

If possible, rearrange furniture or desk to ensure

Keep necessary emergency items nearby such as:


Water. Canned food. Torch, First-aid kit nearby

Discuss how to help elderly/children/disabled, if any

In participation with family members (FM), identify safe


places in your home

Find appropriate furniture & areas within the house that may be
safe (need to avoid areas such as bookshelves etc.)

Chock yourself for injury then take care of others
Be prepared for aftershocks- these are additional shakings that
usually occur alter the main shocks in the same area
Check if there is any gas leak & fallen electric
Wire/line in your area. Be on the lookout for fires
Watch out for cracks in the wall/building, inform
administration section when appropriate
Be cautious in opening door/windows from broken glass or
other debris
Before resuming work on computers or printing,

Ensure connecting wires are secured & not loose

Know the danger spots & other materials (in the area where you
usually stay or move through) that may fall or cause injury
Keep the necessary emergency items such as: water, torch.
First- aid kit in your vehicle in an accessible area

clear location away from buildings, trees, street-lights, power
line e/signs, bridges, under/overpass, poles. Stay there until
the shaking

After the Earthquake


Check yourself for injury then take care of others
If you must exit, don't use elevator or lift, use stairs
Be prepared for aftershocks
Check if there is any gas leak & fallen electric
wire/line. Be on the outlook for fires
Inspect your house for damage or cracks; stay
outside if house is found unsafe
Be cautious in opening door/windows from broken glass or
other debris

If you are in a coastal area,move to higher ground if
possible
If you are in a mountainous area, be alert for falling rocks,
landslide & earth erosion

After the Earthquake

Be alert for aftershocks

Use the phone only in case of emergency so as to keep line


open for those i n real need. Be aware that telephone systems
(landline, mobile) may not function after an earthquake. Agree
with FM on meeting area

If in vehicle, resume driving, watching for holes on the


road bridge/over/underpass for cracks

Be cautious when entering your home or any building for


cracks, fallen electric lines/wires, gas leaks
