"TheFICore consortiumherewithrepresentingtheFIWAREinitiativeisworkingtowards
ensuringsustainabilityofFIWARELab.

TheEC firmlystatesitdoesnotwantthatFIWARE Labincludesnodeswhoseoperation

will dependonavailability offundingfromthe EC,inthecontextofthe FIWAREPPP,in
the long term. That isthe reasonwhythe OpenCallthatFIWARErecentlypublishedis
targeted to organizations that will set up a commercial FIWARE service accompanying
thenewFIWARELabnode. Thatway,inthelongterm,revenuesfromcommercialization
may help to sustain contribution of computing resources to the specific FIWARE Lab
node.

The FIWARE Lab was initially setup by federating nodes operated by organizations
aboutwhichtherearenowsomedoubtswhethertheywouldbeabletosustainoperations
oncefundingisnotavailablefromtheEC.

FundingofcurrentFIWARELabnodeswasplanned till30thSeptember2015(withvery
fewexceptionsof nodes already fundedunderthe FICoreproject)andwillnotlongerbe
funded under the FIWARE PPP programme, unless theygo forthe Open Callin which
casetheyhavetoprovideclearplansaboutsetupofacommercialFIWAREservice.

As aconsequence,currentFIWARE Labnodeswhichdonotcommitsupportuntil31st
December 2016 in absence ofFIWAREPPPfundingwillbediscontinuedaspartofthe
FIWARE Labnodesfederation.Interestingly, manyofthem havecommittedtokeeptheir
nodesactiveuntilthatdateeveninthecasethereisnocommercialserviceattached.

Accordingly,intheeventthatthenodewould notbe operationalformorethan15days,

the managementofthe FIWARELabwill disconnectitwithoutpossibility tochallengethe
decision.The operationalityofthenodewillbeevaluatedaccordingtothe automatictests
performedbytheFIHealthserviceoftheFIWARELab.

 To beconsistentwiththeabove, weneed awritten commitmentaboutsustainabilityof

the ...................................................................................... node (as it is now) until 31st
December 2016 without requiring funding from theFIWARE PPP programme(this does
notpreventthat yousubmitaproposaltotheOpenCallseeking forfundingto enlargethe
node, for example,althoughbeingeligibleforsuchfunding wouldrequirethatyoushow
credibleplans forthesetup ofaFIWARE commercialinstanceasyou know). Thisway,
wewould thenbeabletoactivatetheFIWARELabsupportteamtoprovideassistance in
therequiredactivitiestofederateyournode."
