Course Reflection Letter
In UWRT 1102, I learned how to be a better researcher. I learned what a good source
should look like. I applied this skill and got the best information out of all my sources for the
artist project and semester long project. I have always been somewhat good at bibliographies, but
now I feel confident citing in MLA and APA for any assignment that requires them in the future.
I like to have proper grammar and seem intelligent when I speak and write. I know feel
knowledgeable about rhetoric and critical reading. I can use rhetorical concepts to analyze and
compose a variety of texts using a range of technologies adapted according to audience, context
and purpose. I have developed the flexibility that enables writers to shift voice, tone, formality,
design, medium, and layout intentionally to accommodate varying situations and contexts. Also,
I can analyze my own work and the work of others critically, including examining diverse texts
and articulating the value of various rhetorical choices of writers.
The only thing I struggled with this semester was using Weebly correctly. I am tech savvy
when it comes to iPhones, but when it comes to computer programming and website editing, not
at all. I slowly became more and more comfortable with Weebly. I made some mistakes and fixed
them. I learned how to edit each page and use Scribd. I am proud of myself and feel
accomplished.

My prior knowledge of Jay Z and the Cotton Exchange helped me play a lead role in all
my group projects. I love Wilmington and go to the Cotton Exchange frequently. I thoroughly
enjoyed making my peers more familiar with Downtown Wilmington and intriguing them to
maybe make a visit. In addition, I love Jay Z so being able to research him and talk about him
was great.
I do not really have any questions, maybe how things were graded.
Some of the choices I made for my Semester Long Project Proposal was to really focus
on slavery. After learning and asking historians, I realized the Cotton Exchange didnt play as
significant of a role as I assumed. I then focused more on Champion Cotton Press and the
renovation of the building after the Cotton Press went out of business.
I think this course wanted us to practice being able to use many sources such as a book,
online web page, videos, or a personal interview. It wanted to expand our minds and teach us that
we do not always have to use just google. There are many resources in the world to aid research
that isnt the World Wide Web.
This class helped me become more comfortable speaking publicly. It helped me learn
how to make a website as well. I feel like I can help others with technology now and with proper
presentation etiquette. I overall feel more confident as a writer, peer, and friend.
My best work this semester would be my e-portfolio. I say this because it was
challenging for me because I have never done one before. I am very proud of myself for doing it
in a timely manner and staying on top of it. It looks very nice to me and I hope to you as well.
