HMI

An HMI is an acronym for Human Machine Interface.

A good user interface design encourages natural and engaging interaction
between a user and a system and allows the user to carry out his required
tasks.
The usability is defined as how well the interface meets the following criteria
-

Effectiveness The accuracy and completeness with which a specified

user can achieve specified goals.
- Efficiency The resources expended in relation to the accuracy and
completeness of the goals achieved.
- Satisfaction The comfort and acceptability of the work system to its
users and other people affected by its use.

Gestalt Principles
Gestalt is a psychology term which means "unified whole". It refers to
theories of visual perception developed by German psychologists in the
1920s. These theories attempt to describe how people tend to organize visual
elements into groups or unified wholes when certain principles are applied.
These principles are:

a- Proximity elements that are close together appear as group rather

than random elements.
b- Similarity elements of the same shape or color belong together.
c- Closure where possible we see an incomplete figure as a complete.
d- Continuity we see the figure as two crossing lines instead of random
dots.
e- Symmetry we perceive regions bounded by symmetrical borders as
coherent figures.

HMI quick guide

1 Add an HMI device: double click on add new device

Expand 6Display then select KTP600Basic PN and press OK

In the following example a black root screen is better for a start to

familiarize ourselves with the HMI, and hence all the prebuilt selection will
be unchecked.
In the Select PLC we press browse and choose the required PLC to be
connected with the HMI device.

Uncheck Headers and press Next

Uncheck all the alarms and press Next

Press Next

Press Next

Uncheck left Bottom Right and then press Finish.

2 Adding elements to the HMI from the Toolbox menu.

The Toolbox provides the tools that are necessary to create the target HMI
such as push Buttons, Switches, Trends, Alarms and Indicators.

The circle is used as an indicator and the push button is used to give
commands (e.g. write on a memory of a connected PLC).

The appearance animation is responsible for changing colors that

corresponds to different status of certain variable.

The Tag box is used to link the variable to the indicator (circle)

When the text mode is chosen for the push button the off text
corresponds the text when the button is not pressed and the on
corresponds to the pressed push button text.

In the Event tab ,If the push button is to set a value of a bit to 1 the
required function (i.e. set bit) should be related with the appropriate
triggering condition such as Click, Press ,etc

After completing the configuration of the HMI we complile our work and
then we press the simulate button to start the simulation.
