Article: 7 work secrets interns should know

In two to three weeks, I will be an intern, and I think this will be challenging for me. The
article is very helpful in giving valuable tips for incoming interns like me in preparing for the
working world. I will remember these 7 tips:
1.

2.
3.

4.

5.

6.
7.

Start early, before it's required it is good to start early so that interns and fresh
graduates can have more work experience. According to a recent Jobstreet
study, internships were the number one thing employers wanted to talk about at
an interview way over grades, coming in at number two.
No task too small- It is important to always act professional even though you
are only given a small task to do.
The gaps you can fill- it is your responsibility to be useful. Look for the gaps
cracks in the way they do things, small holes that need to be filled. And because
you may not have a defined role, youre suddenly in a position to do something
about it.
Handling your huge mistake- Resist the urge to explain how it isnt your fault. If it
is, acknowledge the error immediately, ask how it can be avoided, and be
involved actively in correcting it.
The folly of underestimating the stakes. - Prospective employers call other
employers for references. And the last thing you want is for a door to close
prematurely just because of attendance or attitude issues.
The big presentation is a networking event- A big presentation is a huge chance
to make a strong impression on new people youll meet only on the big day.
Critical: Document results- It is important to note what you have learned. The
results must be clear-cut, concise, and preferably quantitative.

I hope at the end of the internship, I will be able to physically perceive and experience
the concepts and theories that I have learned in school. This provides me a chance to reflect
upon what I have learned in my accounting subjects. I will not let people believe that I am not
just an ordinary intern who will just chill out and relax; instead, I will maximize and value the 150
hours of my internship experience. Just like what Facebook user, Carlo Soldevilla said, An
internship is close to learning by doing. It's exploring, wondering, learning how to slowly get out
of the shell, preparing oneself to face the real world (after being armed in school with
appropriate knowledge and skills). Then again, I will be able to gain some very important
insights of working with seniors officials in reality. Lastly, I would be able to utilize their
experience as a guide to correct my mistakes and discovering more skills and knowledge that
might be of use in the future.
