Weekly Writing 6
The work that we have done in class applies to the SLOs in
numerous ways. In many assignments that we have completed in this
class, they are in a way related to one of the SLOs. This is a fairly new
concept that has been introduced to me in this class. I realize that I
have seen this work in a lot of past English classes that I have taken as
well. Focusing on the works in this class, basically every assignment
we have completed falls under one of the SLOs.
My rhetorical knowledge has increased a fair bit while being in
this class. I now know when to write formal and informal writings. We
use informal writing in all of our writings in and out the day as well as
weekly writings and we use formal writing for bigger research projects
like the inquiry project. I can recognize where rhetorical knowledge is
used as well, such as in the poem Where Im From which uses a
specific genre to convey its message. Rhetorical knowledge is
important because it helps me understand how my own piece of
writing works. After being in this class for half the semester I can say
that my rhetorical knowledge has expanded and I am a more aware
writer and reader.

What we have gone over in class that relates to critical reading
includes assignments that basically require research. For the inquiry
project, critical reading played a huge role in what I was going to put
into my paper. I had to use critical reading to find out what kind of
research I wanted to use. Also to find out legitimate sources for
information, I had to once again use critical reading so I could go
accurate and factual research in my paper.
I have an understanding of composing processes because I dont
think that there is a formulaic process to complete any kind of writing.
In all of my writing assignments that I have ever done, I have never
used any kind of template to complete each work. An example of
composing processes would be the inquiry project because we didnt
follow any formulaic process; we used experience and peer response to
get it done. All of the weekly writings in my opinion are composing
processes because they all require me to write upon experiences and
my only requirement is to write a minimum of two pages. The more
freedom I have on a paper, the more composing processes I will use.
Knowledge of conventions is important in all types of writing. In
this class, I see knowledge of conventions in every writing assignment
that we have done in this class so far. There are nuts and bolts to every
writing that we have done in this class. The knowledge of conventions
is basically the fundamentals of writing. The writing should have good
grammar, should have a informal or formal writing style depending on

the writing, and should have a message. Every writing assignment has
nuts and bolts, where the paper is made up of conventions. This is why
for examples it would basically be every single assignment we have
done in the class.
Critical reflection is important in every paper that we write in the
class because it is the reason that we make the choices we do when
writing. In the pitch assignment and every rough draft we have written
in class, it drew up questions about why we are writing the paper or
assignment. The pitch assignment was basically about what we were
going to do in the inquiry project and what we were trying to
accomplish. Rough drafts are used to write the final draft, but for me
they are also used to think why I am writing the paper and why would I
choose to put a sentence in the final draft.
I am not really sure how much I have excelled in the SLOs this
semester from where I was before. I have seen a noticeable difference
in my writing now then how it was before I came into this class. I have
seen after doing this assignment, that I am weak in some of the SLOs
but also strong in other SLOs. I am not much of an all around writer,
but through this class I would like to meet all of the SLOs and try to
become a better writer. We have done many different writing
assignments this semester, which called upon different SLOs.
From what I can tell, I excel at rhetorical knowledge, critical
reading, and composing processes. Knowledge of conventions and

critical reflection are the two SLOs that I am not that good at. My goal
is to get better at the SLOs that I know well and get good at the SLOs
that I am weak in. I need a little more work or instruction on knowledge
of conventions and critical reflection. I am not really aware of any
assignments that would help me get better at both of the SLOs, but I
know that through experience I would be able to excel at them as well.
To get better at the SLOs that I am not good at, I need to get a
better understanding of knowledge of conventions and critical
reflections. I need to practice getting better at recognizing these two
SLOs in each assignment that we complete from here on out in class. I
also need to take it upon myself to try to write more outside of class
and just focus on these SLOs. All that it takes to get better at the SLOs
is for me to practice. I can already tell that my writing has genuinely
gotten better from all of the writing that we have done in the class.
Through writing experience I will definitely get better at those two
SLOs.
