Course completion conditions:
The condition for passing the course is a written work essay from chosen topic without partial
evaluation. Final assessment is under the rating scale according to the Study Regulations UMB.
Course aims:
Introduction to the normative regulation and theory of intellectual property law.
Protection of copyright, industrial property rights and other related rights.
Making students become familiar with particular normative acts which regulate the area of
intellectual property law.
Focus on European intellectual property law and on elements of international regulation of
intellectual property law.
Comparison among intellectual property legislation of chosen European countries.
Brief outline of the course:
The rights of intangible asset in general legal intangibles, the concept, system; Intellectual
property law - its basic characteristics; Copyright law, object of protection - the author's work,
computer programs , copyright subjects, creation and duration of copyrights and its obligations;
Creation and use of copyright work as a result of an employment, rights related to copyright;
Preformers rights, object of protection, subjects performers and their right to control the
recordings, films, or broadcast of their performances; Broadcasters, their legal status, rights
and obligations; Industrial property rights in general, the system of industrial property rights;
Proceeding at the Industrial Property Office; Patent law, legal protection of inventions, design law;
Utility models, protection of topographies of semiconductor products; Trademark, know-how, logo;
International legal aspects of copyright and industrial property rights, international treaties and
conventions, Patent Cooperation Treaty PCT, European intellectual property law; EU design,
trade mark and patent law; Comparison of intellectual property law regulation in chosen countries.
