SENIOR CAD DESIGNER


Bedford Harbour Engineering is a manufacturing and fabrication business in the small town of Hyden in
Western Australia. We build agricultural products for broadacre farmers who grow wheat, barley and canola.
Our business employs six full-time staff. However, due to the small population, it is very hard to get
experienced professional and executive services.
We are currently building a Product Development Engineering Team and require a Senior CAD designer. You
will perform a variety of design/drafting activities group including preparing/updating drawings for projects,
preparing assembly/manufacturing drawings, establishing guidelines and procedures for CAD data
management, and managing workload distribution. Other duties to be performed as outlined in the below
attached document.

Job Description
The Senior CAD Designer will partner with Engineers to prepare and develop complex parametric components,
assemblies, design drawings, layouts, and specifications for engineering projects, including new, revised and
modified products. Work will be performed utilizing Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor for solid modelling and
drawings. You will use your knowledge and expertise to advise engineers and project teams of design and
manufacturing opportunities and constraints.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

3D model; Design components includes advanced surfacing techniques, assemblies, intricate


engineering detail subassembly, capable of simulating movement of all moveable parts showing how
they interact with each other.
Create Manufacturing Data Packs including assembly drawings, parts layouts/blowups, detailed
manufacturing drawings, bill of materials to specification. Available in PDF and DXF.
Trade Specific Data Packs for DXFs for laser cutting or bending with Cut List (provided in excel format)
Coordinate the preparation of estimates for drafting/CAD modelling time required to complete
project.
Maintain notes, design calculations, record development data and other documentation in a neat,
legal, and professional manner.
Establish filing guidelines for drawings to maintain up-to-date drawings
CAD database maintenance.
Assist engineers in the analysis of complex concept models and drawings and make recommendations
for manufacturability and reliability. Analyse the effects of such changes on appearance, function,
and cost of parts and assemblies.
Advise and instruct lower level CAD designers concerning design assignments, techniques, and
procedures. Develop and publish best practices to the wider CAD community.
Assist engineers with complex design and manufacturing constraints.
Compute complex model analysis (volumes, areas, material quantities) for products using accepted
software, formulas and manuals. Rely on expertise of engineers when required.

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:
-

A degree or completion of a technical trade school in CAD, drafting or related field, plus five to ten
years of related work experience: or any equivalent combination of experience and training that
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must demonstrate superior CAD skills. Experience or knowledge of solidworks and/or Inventor.
Experience using Autocad 2D design software.
Successful completion of CAD test will be required.

Willingness to create drawings of a high standard that are easy to understand. That means
any automated drawing packages you produce are checked and edited before being
forwarded to us.

Good English with excellent communication skills interpersonal, listening, oral, and written
Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office
Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.
Able to generate layout drawings from sketches and specifications.
Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.

Will give preference to designers with:


-

Ability to conduct design verification performing finite element and dynamic analysis for strength,
performance, and manufacturability.
Knowledge of agricultural equipment and systems
Knowledge of hydraulic systems
Ability to design jigs, fixtures, and mounts (especially for metal bending)
Experience in specification development.
