UN SOLO CORAZN

BOA MISTURA es un colectivo multidisciplinar con races

en el graffiti nacido a finales de 2001 en Madrid, Espaa. Su
obra se desarrolla principalmente en el espacio pblico, habiendo llevado a cabo proyectos en Ciudad del Cabo, Noruega,
Berln, Sao Paulo, Venecia, Argel o Nueva York.
Boa Mistura han sido invitados a la Biennale de Venezia,
han participado en exposiciones en centros de arte como el
Museo Reina Sofa, Casa Encendida, Galera Raquel Ponce o
Museo DA2 de Salamanca.
Han colaborado con fundaciones como ONCE, Intermon
Oxfam, Cruz Roja o Antonio Gala e impartido conferencias
en TEDxMadrid, o en Universidades como las de Madrid,
Sevilla, Cuenca, Alcal de Henares o Santander.
El trmino Boa Mistura, del portugus buena mezcla,
hace referencia a la diversidad de estilos y puntos de vista de
cada uno. Amor por el graffiti, el color y la vida. Visiones distintas que se complementan, influencian y se mezclan en favor
de un resultado nico.

BOA MISTURA is a multidisciplinary collective with roots in

graffiti, born in late 2001 in Madrid, Spain. They develope their
works mainly in the public space. They have carried out projects in
Cape Town, Norway, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Venize, Algers or New
York.
Boa Mistura have been invited to the Bienale di Venize of Architecture, and have taken part in exhibitions in art galleries such as the
Reina Sofa Museum, Casa Encendida in Madrid, Raquel Ponce
Gallery and the DA2 Museum in Salamanca. They have collaborated with foundations such as ONCE (Spanish national organisation for the blind), Oxfam and Antonio Gala, and given lectures at
TEDxMadrid, or Universities such as Madrid, Seville and Alcal
de Henares.
The term Boa Mistura, from the Portuguese for good mixture,
refers to the diversity of style and perspectives of each member. Love
for graffiti, colour and life. Distinct visions which complement each
other, influence each other, and always combine to create something
even better.

DIE UMARMUNG
Berln. El abrazo.

Pintado, sobre el East Side Hotel, frente al viejo muro de

Berln y en el 20 aniversario de su cada, este mural es el particular homenaje entendimiento. Al encuentro entre las dos
Alemanias y las dos facciones del mundo hasta entonces enfrentadas.
Dos figuras tatuadas expresan el encuentro entre Este y
Oeste. Cada una de ellas conserva en su piel las huellas de su
pasado, recordndoles que un da fueron forzadas a ser distintas. Superada la sinrazn que les separaba, hoy se funden como
dos amantes en un hotel.
Painted on the East Side Hotel, in front of the old Berlin Wall
and for the 20th Aniversary of its fall, this mural is a particular
tribute to understanding. To the encounter of the two Germanys
and the two faces of the world that until then were confronted.
Two tattooed figures express the meeting between East and
West. Each one of them keeps in the skin the proof of their past,
reminding them that one day they were pushed to be different.
Once the nonsense is gone, they melt each other like two lovers
in a hotel.

Mstoles, es el resultado de la colaboracin entre el estudio
Nodo17, padre arquitectnico del edificio y el colectivo Boa
Mistura, que ha intervenido en l, abarcando desde la sealtica a grandes murales en el interior del edificio.
Tipografas para el Archivo Municipal y retratos de mujeres
residentes en Mstoles para convertir el Instituto de La Mujer
en algo ms cercano y personal.
IMAM, Institute for Women and Local Archive of Mstoles, is
the result of the collaboration between Nodo17 Architecture Studio, author of the building, and Boa Mistura, that has worked
inside it, ranging from signage to large murals.

women from Mstoles, to make of the Institute for Women something closer and personal.

Diseo para la envolvente de la nueva escuela de msica de

Archena, Murcia, proyectada por los arquitectos Alberto Gil
Torrano y MaJos Guilln.
Interpretando los ornamentos que, a lo largo de la historia, han tenido los instrumentos musicales, definimos unas
geometras que horadan la piel del nuevo volumen de acceso.
La profundidad vara, ligeramente, tamizando el paso de la luz,
originando un paisaje de sombras que van cambiando a lo largo
del da.

We interpreted the ornaments that through the history have
decorated the music instruments. We defined geometric shapes
that perforates the skin of the building.
The depth of the perforation is slightly variated, creating a
shadows landscape that changes during the day.

Galera Raquel Ponce, Madrid. Instalacin efmera.

Intervencin en la Galera Raquel Ponce con motivo del 10

Aniversario de la revista Metalocus. Utilizando el papel como
elemento principal, se vincula la obra con el relato la revista
voladora.
Una lmina de papel horadada vuela sobre un collage de materiales dibujando el rostro de los creadores de la publicacin.
Esas dos partes, la voladora y la esttica, dan sentido fsico al
concepto de la revista. El resultado: dos grandes retratos que
ocupaban los paos principales de la galera.
Ephemeral intervention at Raquel Ponce Gallery for the 10th
anniversary of Metalocus Magazine. Using paper as main element, we bind the piece with the text La revista voladora (the
flying magazine).
A delicate sheet of paper that flies over a collage made with
different materials. The paper has been perforated with the portraits of the magazine founders, so that the faces are defined by the
collage underneath them.

Varias localizaciones

Muros, medianeras, soportes cuya naturaleza acaba dotando

a la obra de un carcter efmero. Dichos soportes estn sometidos a factores que actan contra ellos: graffiteros, brigadas de
limpieza, derrumbes, inclemencias del tiempo o agresiones externas que los daan o que incluso llegan a borrarlos del mapa.
Esta serie retrata artistas urbanos extendiendo directamente
una capa de pintura blanca sobre el soporte.
An old wall is a support that provides the piece with an ephemeral nature. Those surfaces are subject of factors that act against
them, such as graffiti writers, cleaning crews, demolitions, bad
weather or external aggression that damage them or even wipe
them out. This series portrays urban artists by applying a white
paint layer over the support.

Se tapa as gran parte de la riqueza plstica que otorgan al

soporte firmas, carteles arrancados o parches grises, para crear
otra obra, en este caso, suma de dos imgenes: la de la capa blanca, que ordena y da forma. Y la capa de fondo, que es ahora el
rostro de aquel graffitero que un da llen de firmas lo que hoy
es su propio retrato.
Un homenaje a la belleza efmera que no puede durar, una
vuelta de tuerca a las reglas del juego que imperan en el arte
urbano.
We resign to almost all of the richness of textures, paint patches
of the surface under the white paint. This way we create another
piece, that is adition of two images: the white layer, that put order
and gives shape. And the bottom layer, that is now the portrait of
that graffiti writer that once covered with tags what today is his
own face.
A tribute to ephemeral beauty that can not last, a twist to the
game rules that reign in urban art.

DIAMOND INSIDE
Ciudad del Cabo. Sudfrica.

Diamond Inside recoge el proyecto realizado por el colectivo artstico Boa Mistura en Ciudad del Cabo, Sudfrica. Casi
un mes de intervenciones murales en el centro de la ciudad,
en el emergente barrio de Woodstock, y en el township de
Khayelistha.
Un inspirador encuentro de culturas, personas y artistas,
documentado por el cineasta Luis Snchez Alba, que tuvo lugar gracias al programa de residencia de la Galera A Word Of
Art comisariado por Ricky Lee Gordon.
Diamond Inside documents the project carried out by the
group of artists Boa Mistura in Cape Town, South Africa. The
project involved almost a month of mural interventions in the
city, in the up-and-coming Woodstock district and the township
of Khayelitsha.
It was an inspiring meeting of cultures, people and artists,
documented by film director Luis Snchez Alba, which took place
thanks to the A Word Of Art Gallerys residency program curated by Ricky Lee Gordon.

Inspired by the quick process of change that the country is living, the positive trace that Mandela has left and the constructive
attitude of most of the inhabitants, we conceive a series of murals on purpose for South Africa. Large icons; powerful images
accompanied by reflection. All expressed with african flavour:
handcrafted work, african patterns and bright colors. A string of
positive messages that form the basis of this series. Our bit in a
process where small actions can lead to big changes.

How do you know that youre not the best javelin thrower in
the world? Or a musician with an extraordinary ability to move
people? Perhaps a professional cheese taster, industrial designer,
microlight pilot, or simply the best father or the calmest, happiest
person in the world? We all have a diamond inside us. We can all
shine as human beings.

PELEA TU SUEO!

En los townships y zonas deprimidas, exista una actitud desalentadora de algunas personas respecto a sus hijos, siempre
con la intencin de no generar expectativas y futuros desengaos en ellos, as que decidimos hacer un mural para cambiar esa
actitud. Decidimos pintar un puo como smbolo de la lucha
que cada uno debe emprender por cumplir sus sueos. Antes de
escribir la traduccin en ingls Fight for your dreams todos
los nios ya estaban gritando Pelea tu sueo y preguntando
por su significado. Fue todo un premio, para nosotros, explicar
a habitantes de Gympie street lo que encerraban esas palabras:
Si tu tienes un sueo persguelo. Pelalo y pelalo hasta conseguirlo. Porque las nicas batallas perdidas son las que no se
libran.
FIGHT FOR YOUR DREAM!

At the townships and run-down areas, there was a disheartening attitude of some parents towards their children, never wanting
to build up their expectations, only for them to be disappointed in
the future, so we decided to paint a mural to change this attitude.
We decided to paint a fist as a symbol of the fight that everybody
has to embark on in order to make their dreams come true. Before writing the English translation, Fight for your dreams, all
the children were shouting Pelea tu sueo and asking us what
it meant. It was so rewarding for us to explain to the inhabitants
of Gympie Street what those words meant: If you have a dream,
follow it. Keep fighting for it until you get it. Because the only
battles you lose are the ones you dont fight.

Este mural, que se encuentra frente a la estacin de metro de

Woodstock, es un homenaje a nuestras races. Un homenaje a
frica, cuna y madre de la humanidad.
Estas dos figuras con un slo corazn son un smbolo de
unidad ms all de fronteras, nacionalidades o razas. Pertenecemos a un tejido ms amplio, que es la humanidad, al conjunto
de seres vivos y al ecosistema que formamos con el planeta
Tierra.
ONE HEART, ONE LOVE

This mural, which is opposite Woodstock metro station, is a

tribute to our roots. A tribute to Africa, birthplace and mother
of humanity.
These two figures with one heart are a symbol of unity beyond
the boundaries of nationality or race. We belong to a larger fabric,
the fabric of humanity, woven together with living beings and the
ecosystem we form with Planet Earth.

frica Madre. Todo hombre debera tener como obligacin peregrinar y viajar por el continente madre y redescubrir las races de nuestro origen. Si en algn sitio se conserva la
esencia antigua de la humanidad es en frica, donde la vida es
cercana a la tierra y todo, alegra, dolor, amor por la vida, es ms
intenso y ms puro que en el resto del mundo.
Enseguida uno se da cuenta de que hay algo especial en este
continente. No hay ms que ver a estos nios sin miedo, sin preocupaciones, que te recuerdan que la vida deberamos vivirla as,
con esa eterna sonrisa y esa alegra incondicional, incombustible
y a prueba de todo.
WE ALL SHARE THE SAME ROOTS

Mother Africa. Every man should feel it their duty to

make the pilgrimage to the mother continent and rediscover
our origin. If theres one place that conserves the ancient essence
of humanity, its Africa, where life is close to the earth and everything happiness, pain, love for life is more intense and
more pure than anywhere in the world.
You realise straight away that there is something special about
this continent. Theres nothing better than seeing these fearless
children, without a care, who remind you that we should all live
life like that, with that eternal smile and that unconditional happiness, unwearying and unshakeable.

VELOKHAYA KHAYELITSHA
Ciudad del Cabo. Sudfrica. Taller y mural.

Khayelitsha, uno de los poblados ms grandes de toda Sudfrica. Un ocano de chapas grecadas, maderas y cartones que se
extiende hasta desvanecerse en el horizonte. All se encuentra
Velokhaya, una escuela de ciclismo que entrena a 300 nios,
inculcndoles los valores humanos a travs del deporte. En
muchos casos, sirviendo a los chicos como vlvula de escape,
de evasin, ante las difciles situaciones que tienen en casa.
Proporcionndoles un sitio seguro. Velokhaya, ante todo, es
una gran familia.
Nuestro granito de arena a Velokhaya ha sido convertir las instalaciones en un hito de color. Implicando a la comunidad, les hicimos partcipes en el mural
para que as sintieran Velokhaya ms suyo todava. Fue
maravilloso estar mano a mano y compartir esos das con
ellos.
Khayelitsha: one of the biggest townships in South Africa. An
ocean of corrugated iron, wood and cardboard that disappears into
the horizon. There is Velokhaya, a cycling school that trains three
hundred children, instilling moral values in them through sport. In
many cases, provides the children with an escape from the difficult
situations they face at home. Offering them a safe place to come to.
Above all Velokhaya is a big family.
Our bit for Velokhaya has been to transform the facilities
with a splash of colour. We got the community involved, getting
to paint the mural with their own hands, so that they felt that
Velokhaya belonged to them more than ever. It was wonderful to
work side by side and share those days with them.

LUZ NAS VIELAS

So Paulo, Brasil. Proyecto de Arte Urbano participativo

El Proyecto Luz Nas Vielas ha sido realizado en Vila

Brasilndia, So Paulo, durante el mes de Enero de 2012. Forma parte de la serie CROSSROADS: Proyectos de Arte Urbano participativo con los que el colectivo pretende intervenir
en comunidades desfavorecidas empleando el arte como herramienta de cambio e inspiracin.
Tuvimos la oportunidad de vivir en Brasilndia, acogidos
por la familia Gonlves, y acceder al contacto directo con la
comunidad. Tras un estudio y anlisis previo, definen como
marco de actuacin las callejuelas que sirven de elementos
conectores en el tejido urbano, conocidas como vielas y becos. El dilogo con los moradores y su participacin activa han
sido determinantes en la direccin del Proyecto. BELEZA,
FIRMEZA, AMOR, DOURA y ORGULHO son los conceptos elegidos por el colectivo para las intervenciones.
LUZ NAS VIELAS ha sido posible gracias al Patrocinio de
la Embajada de Espaa en Brasil y la colaboracin de Singapore
Airlines, Montana Colors y el Centro Cultural Espaol en SP.
Los resultados del proyecto se expondrn en Sao Paulo durante la Virada Sustentvel el 4 y 5 de Junio de 2012.

BOA MISTURAs project LUZ NAS VIELAS has been

carried out in Vila Brasilndia, So Paulo, during January
2012. The project is part of the CROSSROADS series: Boa
Misturas Participative Urban Art Interventions to modify
rundown communities using art as a tool for change and inspiration.
Between the 4th and 16th of January BOA MISTURA had
the opportunity to live in Brasilndia, hosted by the Gonalves
family, having this way direct contact with the community.
After preliminary studies and analysis, the defined framework
are the narrow and winding streets that connects the urban
net, known as VIELAS and BECOS. The dialogue with residents and their active participation has been decisive for the
Project. BELEZA, FIRMEZA, AMOR, DOURA
and ORGULHO are the concepts chosen by the collective for
the interventions.
LUZ NAS VIELAS has been made possible with the sponsorship of the Embassy of Spain in Brazil and the collaboration of Singapore Airlines, Montana Colors and the Spanish
Cultural Center in So Paulo.
The results will be presented in So Paulo during the event
Virada Sustentvel the 4th and 5th of June, 2012.

Nuestra intervencin consisti en pintar 1500m2 de suelo.
Una lectura contempornea de las tradicionales prendas noruegas, en cuya geometra nos inspiramos para tejer un nuevo
manto para la plaza.
The Architect firm Ecosistema Urbano invited us to make an
intervention at Hamars main square, which they are redesigning. We have created a 1500m2 carpet remaking the traditional
Norwegian sweater patterns.

Venecia. Presentacin del proyecto Dream Hamar

En colaboracin con el estudio de Arquitectura Ecosistema

Urbano intervenimos en el Pabelln de Espaa de la Biennale
de Venezia. Paredes y suelo de la sala del Pabelln quedan cubiertas por las geometras que ya utilizamos en Noruega, y sirven de fondo para que Ecosistema superponga objetos de las
diversas fases del proyecto.
In collaboration with the architecture firm Ecosistema Urbano
we made an intervention in the Spain Pavillion of the Biennale
di Venezia. We filled walls and floor with the same patterns we
already used in Hamar, Norway. This painting is the background
for the objects of the different stages of the project.

Taller en colaboracin con Argadini, asociacin de ayuda a

personas con discapacidad
Cinco das con Vctor, Luis, Ral, Nacho y Luis. Como objetivo: ofrecerles nuevas posibilidades de expresin plstica y
fomentar, gracias al contacto con otros artistas, su crecimiento
y dilogo en el plano del Arte.
La actividad, que comenz con una jornada de encuentro
y primeras lneas en papel, se culmin con un mural conjunto
de 40m.
IMAGINATION MAKES US INFINITE es la frase
con la que Boa Mistura complet la obra, interviniendo tan
slo con blanco para definir las tipografas.
Workshop in collaboration with Argadini, non-profit association for disabled people.
Five days with Vctor, Luis, Ral, Nacho and Luis. Our objetive: offer them new possibilities of artistic expression and to promote, thanks to the contact with other artists, their growth and
dialogue in terms of Art.
The Activity began with a meeting to draw the first lines and
sketches on paper. It ended up with a 40 m mural done both
groups.

Instalacin efmera para Decoraccin 2011. Madrid

Inspirados en el poema El orden es de Louis I.Kahn, esta

instalacin consiste en una composicin abstracta de muebles. Al recorrerla, slo se ordena cuando es observada desde
un punto concreto. El blanco invade todo el espacio, salvo el
interior de las letras, donde se ha respetado la textura y color

Inspired by the poem Order is by Louis I. Khan, the piece
involves an abstract furniture composition that only makes sense
when is observed from one particular point, from where you can
read the quote Order is Intangible. White color pours the whole
space, except the interior of the letters, where the texture and original colours of the furniture have been preserved.
