Teaching materials is an important part of most English teaching lessons. From

textbooks, videotapes, software, pictures and internet, teachers rely heavily on diverse range of materials to
support their teaching and their students learning. However, despite the current rich array of English language
teaching materials commercially available, many teachers spend considerable time finding, selecting,
evaluating, adapting and making materials for classroom use. Thus, many English language teachers for many
reasons construct their own teaching materials to personalise the materials according to the learners and also to
overcome the lack of fit of the course book. In India, the need for task based language teaching and learning is
gaining its importance. This need is because of the typical Indian heterogenous atmosphere of learners.
Therefore, the activity based learning is actively used by the teachers in encouraging the students to learn.
In the prospect of teaching preposition, materials make the learning easy.
Preposition is one of the important aspects in many competitive exams and it is on the confused concepts. So,
activities like, filling up the prepositions in stories and crossword puzzles make the learning easy , clear and
interesting. Likewise, these types of activities should undergo evaluation and feedback, which will act as a key
in making the learner have a clear idea about preposition.
Examples:
Add the Prepositions to Complete the Story
A preposition connects a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence, showing the relationship between
them. Prepositions usually answer the questions where? or when? , telling about a person or objects location in
either time or space. Use one of the prepositions from the word bank in each of the blanks in the story below.
Prepositions can be used more than once, as long as they make sense where you place them in the story.
Preposition Word Bank { in, over, near, on , across, for, to, throughout, above, before, beneath, within,
