Examination Information
Location and Date
This Beta exam offering will take place at the Reliability Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada
DATE:

Saturday, April 16, 2016

TIME:

2:30 PM 6:30 PM (Please arrive by 2:00 PM for check in)

LOCATION: South Point Hotel & Casino

Scheduling and Fees, Initial Certification

This Beta exam contains twice the number of questions than typically appear on an NDT Level
III PdM basic examination; 180 questions rather than 90 questions. Candidates will have four
hours to complete the exam. The completed exams will be scored first to determine the
validity of the questions in terms of acceptable difficulty (not too easy or too difficult) and
acceptable discrimination (accurately distinguishing between competent and incompetent
candidates). If enough valid questions are generated, those will be scored for each candidate
to determine if the candidate passed or failed. If the candidate passes the PdM Beta basic
exam and then subsequently takes and passes the NDT Level III Thermal/Infrared (IR) and/or
Vibration Analysis (VA) exam, the candidate then would be awarded an NDT Level III PdM
certificate in the method(s) taken and passed.
Because there is a good likelihood, but not a guarantee that the PdM basic exam will be
validated, there are no examination fees for this Beta examination. All candidates will be
notified of the results of their examination; pass, fail, or examination not validated. Finalizing
results may take as many as 13 weeks after the Beta exam is offered. Those choosing to
retake a failed Beta examination will be charged the full first-time exam fee.

Reference Materials
Pages 7 and 8 of this application lists training and body of knowledge reference
materials from which the beta exam questions were developed.

Code of Ethics for NDT Level III Personnel Certified by ASNT

1.0 Purpose
of NDT activities shall faithfully and accurately reflect the tests
conducted, procedures used, and results obtained.

The following Code of Ethics is binding upon every individual who

possesses a current ACCP or ASNT NDT Level II or Level III
Certification. These rules are necessary to protect the life, health,
property and welfare of the public, and to maintain the credibility of
the ASNT Central Certification Program, the ASNT NDT Level II
and Level III programs and the NDT profession. Accordingly, each
ACCP or ASNT NDT Level II or Level III certified individual
agrees to abide by the following:

2.3 Conflict of Interest: Consciously avoid conflict of interest situations

with employer or client, promptly informing same if such situations
cannot be avoided.
2.4 Improper Conduct: Refrain from work activities outside the area of
certification without written approval of his/her supervisor.
2.5 Safety: Act in a safe and responsible manner while conducting
NDT activities, ensuring that all required and necessary safety
procedures are in place and are being used by ones self and others
under his/her jurisdiction.

2.0 Code of Ethics

2.1 Responsibility: Protect the safety, health and welfare of the public,
by performing all NDT activities to the best of his/her ability in
accordance with properly established and approved procedures and
only in situations for which qualified.

3.0 Penalty
Violation of this Code of Ethics by any ACCP or ASNT NDT Level
II certificate holder may be cause for disciplinary action against that
person which may result in sanctions up to revocation of ASNT
certification.

2.2 Integrity: Perform all NDT activities honestly, and treat the public,
clients and employer in an impartial and ethical manner. All reports

Statements and Signature

By signature on this application, if certified by ASNT, I agree to abide by
the Code of Ethics for Level III Personnel Certified by ASNT so long as I
maintain a Certificate. Further, I understand the right of ASNT to
suspend or revoke any Certificate granted if I abuse the privileges
therein granted to me.

BETA EXAMINATION DETAILS

The purpose of these Beta examinations is to generate field
performance statistics that will be used by the ASNT Certification
Management Council (CMC) for the validation of the examination
questions so that they can be used in future PdM Level III
examinations. The Beta examination will consist of twice the
number of questions on previous PdM Level III exams (180
questions instead of 90).

I understand that certifications which may result from this application do

not constitute any form of license.
I hereby attest that all facts on this application are true and correct and
no information which might be detrimental has been withheld. ASNT may
make any inquiries necessary to determine my qualifications for
certification. I agree to abide by the decision of ASNT relative to the
granting of any Certifications as applied for herein.

These Beta examination results will not be immediately

available. Prior to issuing results, the statistics for each question
will be evaluated to determine that they fall within acceptable
psychometric parameters. If enough questions meet these
requirements the examination will then be validated and a
passing score for the examination will be determined by the
Certification Management Council (CMC). All candidates
examinations will then be graded scoring only those validated
questions to determine if candidates pass or fail. At that time all
candidates will be notified of their results (pass, fail, or
examination not validated). If the candidate passes the PdM
Beta exam and then subsequently takes and passes the NDT
Level III Thermal/Infrared (IR) and/or Vibration Analysis (VA)
exam, the candidate then would be awarded a PdM Level III
certificate in the method(s) taken and passed.

For valuable consideration, the undersigned, having made application for

Certification as Level III before ASNT, does hereby release and forever
discharge The American Society For Nondestructive Testing, an Ohio
Corporation, from any and all liabilities, claims, demands, or causes of
action whatsoever, which now exist or which may hereafter arise on
account of the undersigneds activities henceforth as Level III certified by
ASNT.
The undersigned further acknowledges that this release is being given as
a prerequisite for having filed application for consideration by ASNT.
The undersigned further represents that if not certified by ASNT, then
this release and discharge shall have no force and effect; otherwise,
upon certification as set forth above, this release shall be binding on the
undersigned and The American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc.
and any and all agents of ASNT in connection with such certification
process. I have read and understand the transfer, cancellation and
refund policy and understand that all application documents submitted to
ASNT become the property of ASNT.

Retakes will be charged at the cost for taking an examination for

the first time. Should any of the beta examinations not result in
the minimum number of required valid questions, additional beta
exams will have to be developed and administered.

I agree not to release confidential examination materials or participate in

fraudulent test-taking practices.
I understand that I am required to inform ASNT of matters that affect my
capability to continue to fulfill the requirements of my certification(s).
Failure to do so may result in the suspension or revocation of my
certification(s) by ASNT.

I authorize ASNT to publish my name, city, state, country, test methods,
