NJ Transit approves larges fare hike in agency history commuters are stinging from the decision

by NJ Transit’s board to raise train and some bus fares 25 percent-tied for the biggest fare hike in

NJ transit’s history-but the agency’s executive director said he didn’t expect another increase in

the next three years.

The Fare hike, the first since a 9-percent increase in 2007, was needed to close a $300 million

budget hole for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

The increase was originally going to be a flat 25 percent across the board, until testimony at a

dozen of public hearings NJ Transit leaders modify the increases.

Top officials from the U.S. State Department plan to travel to Moscow this week to push Russia
to allow adoptions by U.S families to continue

The trip comes after a U.S. family sparked outrage by sending an adopted 7 year old boy back to
Russia alone. Officials in Moscow have threatened to halt all adoptions by U.S. families.

Russia is the third most popular country for U.S families adopting children internationally,
behind China and Ethiopia.

The family that returned the boy said he showed violent and psychotic behavior and that officials
in Russia had given no warning.

The man who rescued an 11 year old girl lost in a dense Florida swamp said yesterday that God
led him directly to her and that finding her was no surprise.

James King said he set out on his own to look for Nadia Bloom on Tuesday, trusting that he was
going in the right direction even when that meant through water or dense brush.

King was surprised at the good shape Nadia was in. she had been missing since Friday. Shoeless
and covered in insect bites, she was in otherwise good condition, he said.

The two of them then stayed in the swamp, near Lake Jesup in Central Florida, while king called
authorities to rescue them.

The U.S. government is not fully guarding against the contamination of meat by traces of
antibiotics, pesticides or heavy metals, a new report warns.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s inspector general said federal agencies have failed to set
limits on many potentially harmful chemical residues, which “has resulted in meat with these
substances being distributed in commerce”

When it comes to pesticide traces, only one type is tested for, according to the report. There are
also no set limits for some heavy metals, like copper.

In 2008, Mexican authorities turned away an American shipment of beef, because it did not meet
Mexico’s limits when tested for copper traces. But the very same rejected meat could be sold in
the United States, since no limit has been set, the analysis says.
