How to Change a GTU

Overview

This guide describes how to change out the active GTU for a spare unit. For detailed description of
how to change GTU settings refer to the manual or technical reference documents.

Checks on the spare unit

To allow a fast switch-over, with the minimum of software reconfiguration required in the on-line
system, the spare unit should be pre-configured with the same IP address, controller software
version (e.g. shooter.exe, recorder.exe), start-up command (quest.bat) and physical trigger jumper
settings as the on-line system unit. The only configuration item that should not be the same is the
devices unit ID (same as the unit four digit serial number).
To check these settings on the spare unit, connect the Debug port of the GTU to a HyperTerminal
session (115200baud) and restart the GTU. The follow dialogue appears. Tip:- You need to be quick
to stop the HyperTerminal session before too much dialogue is output, so hang-up as soon as you see
the dialogue start.

Adding the new GTU to the system

Once the GTU is physically connected to the TriggerFish network there are three items in the
configuration that must be updated with the new GTU unit ID.

Hydra Server

Update the Unit and card ID in the Time Server section. If this is not done, the system will not have
time sync.

Trigger Unit

In System editor System View, double click the trigger unit and edit the Unit id field.

Shooter/Recorder Controller

In System editor System View, double click Shooter or Recorder Controller and select the new GTU
from the drop-down menu.
