TYPES OF DOORS:

Slab
What it is: Your standard door; the most popular kind.
Pro: It can be flush (flat) or textured (with detailing). You can customize it with glass
inserts.

French
What it is: Two door panels that lock in the middle and swing in or out.
Pro: The doors let in breezes and natural light.
Con: Youll need to account for clearance on each side.

Gliding
What it is: A door with two to four panels that slide past one another.
Pro: It provides a tight seal (so its energy-efficient) and doesnt require any
clearance.
Con: Only one side opens at a time.

Dutch
What it is: A door divided horizontally into two halves.
Pro: You can leave the top open and the bottom shut (so Fido stays in or out).
Con: Air can leak in or out if weather stripping is not properly installed. Bifold

Bifold
What it is: A system of hinged doors that stack against a wall.
Pro: Perfect for indoor-outdoor living, its weather-tight when closed.
Con: Its expensive, and youll have to buy custom-made screens.

TYPES OF WINDOWS:
casement window - (or casement) is a window that is attached to its frame by one
or more hinges. Casement windows are hinged at the side.

A single hung window consists of two sashes, one on the top that does not move
and another one on the bottom that does move vertically. Contrast single-hung
windows with fixed windows (consisting of one sash that does not move) or doublehung windows (consisting of two sashes, both of which move up and down).

AWNING- a window consisting of several top-hinged sections arranged in a

vertical series, operated by one or more control devices that swing the bottom
edges of the sections outward, and designed esp. to admit air while excluding
rain

HOPPER- These windows are hinged at the bottom and open inward from the top - the reverse
of awning windows.

SLIDER- A window that is composed of two windows, or sashes, that glide open and closed on
a metal track.

FIXED- (Fixed windows) don't open at all, and therefore can be had in just about any shape and
any of the usual materials.

TYPES OF ROOF:
GABLE ROOF- a roof sloping downward from a central ridge so as to leave a gable at each

end.

GAMBREL ROOF-A two-sided roof with a double slope on each side, the lower slope having

the steeper pitch.

MANSARD ROOF-A four-sided roof having a double slope on all sides, with the lower slope

much steeper than the upper.

HIPPED ROOF- A four-sided roof having sloping ends and sides.
FLAT ROOFA roof actually horizontal and level, as in some Oriental buildings

A roof nearly horizontal, constructed of such material as allows the water to run
off freely from a very slight inclination.

SHED ROOF- a roof having a single slope.
