ROBOWARS

1. INTRODUCTION:
THE URGE TO BEAT THE FIERCEST IS ALL THAT IT TAKES TO BE THE BEST.

The battle for honor is about to begin, the hunger for power has increased; the urge to defeat is at its
peak The Kings are ready and the preparation is on to fight the battle and to claim it all Warriors will
be crushed, warriors will rise. The war full of aggression, passion, style and control to claim the throne, to
be the king of arena is back with PECFEST15 and its all bigger and fiercer!!! Be there to witness the
deadly combat as the furious and ferocious warriors electrify the atmosphere with the clash of metals and
destruction with their weapons!
BANG BANG BANG is all that will be heard as the MEN OF STEEL will roar for their honour!!!

2. Task:
Design and construct a manual (remote controlled) robot (wired or unwired), capable of surviving through a
one to one combat.

3. Arena Specifications:
The dimensions of the arena will be 10feet*8feet. The arena will be fenced with wire mesh on all sides.
The distance between the wire mesh and the arena will be 2 feet on all sides. The height of the fence will
be 4 feet.
There are two rounds. In first round the arena will not be divided into different zones but in round 2
there will be different zones namely, red, green and yellow. The yellow region ill have grease patches
and green will have patches of rough terrain.

MAIN ARENA:-

4. ROBOT Specifications:
Dimensions and Fabrications:
1. The machine should fit in a box of dimension 851mm x 851mm x 1001 mm (l x b x h) at any given point

during the match. The external device used to control the machine or any external tank is not included in the
size constraint.
2. The weight of bot should not exceed 60kg, including the weight of pneumatic source/tank. The weight of the

batteries is not to be included in the specified weight constraint. All pneumatic tanks/source should be
onboard but the battery should be outside the arena. Weight of remote controller will not be counted.
3. All wires connected to the robot must be passed through a vertical pipe of minimum height of 200mm (from

the robots chassis), failing which team will face disqualification.

Mobility:
All robots must have easily visible and controlled mobility in order to compete. Methods of Mobility
include:

1. Rolling (wheels, tracks or the whole robot).

2. Walking (linear actuated legs with no rolling or cam operated motion).
3. Jumping or hopping is not allowed.
4. Flying (using airfoil, helium balloons, ornithopters, etc.) is not allowed.

Telemetry:
1. The robot can be controlled through wired or wireless remote. Power supply for the remote
control should be separate.
2. The machines using wireless remote must at least have a 3 frequency crystals which they may be
asked to change at any given time during the event. This is to avoid interference.
3. Readymade or self-made remote controllers may be used.
4. The remote controls may at any time be checked by the organizers.

Power Source:
1. Batteries, if used, should not be damaged and should not be likely to leak as it may lead to
disqualification.
2. The participants wont be allowed to change batteries during the match. However changing battery
or recharging it will be allowed in between two or more matches.

3. The machine can be powered electrically only. Use of an IC engine in any form is not allowed. On
board batteries if used, must be sealed, immobilized-electrolyte types (such as gel cells, lithium, NiCad,
NiMH, or dry cells).
4. The electric voltage between 2 points anywhere in the machine should not be more than 48 V DC at
any point of time.
5. Batteries and battery connections will be checked by organizers before the event and unsafe use of the
same may result in disqualification.
6. Battery weight should not exceed 12kg.

Pneumatics and Hydraulics:

1.

Robot can use pneumatic devices actuated by pressurized non-inflammable gases.

2.

Maximum allowed outlet nozzle pressure is 8 bar. The storage tank and pressure regulators used by
teams need to be certified.

3.

Participants must be able to indicate the used pressure with integrated or temporarily fitted pressure
gauge. Also there should be provision to check the cylinder pressure on the bot.

4.

The maximum pressure in cylinder should not exceed the rated pressure at any point of time.

5.

Entire pneumatic setup should be on-board, no external input (from outside the arena) can be given
to the robot for functioning of its pneumatic system.

Weapon Systems:
1. Bot can use any kind of magnetic weapons, spinning weapons, cutters, flippers, saws, lifting
devices, spinning hammers , metal contraptions with spikes, circular saws, maces,
flamethrowers, cutters, flippers, drills, hammer, metallic armour and shield, high power magnet
and electro-magnet, etc. with following exceptions and limitations:

Liquid projectiles.
Any ignitable or explosive weapon.
Nets, tape, glue, or any other entanglement device.
Magnets or electromagnets or any kind of jamming devices are not allowed
Tethered or un-tethered projectiles.
Spinning weapons which do not come in contact with the arena at any point of time are
allowed.

The weapons should in no way damage the arena. The robot may be disqualified by the organizers
at any given time if deemed unsafe.
2. Robot can use pressurized non-inflammable gases to actuate pneumatic devices. Maximum allowed
outlet nozzle pressure is 8 bars.

3. Robot can use non-inflammable liquid to actuate hydraulic devices e.g. cylinders. Maximum allowed
pressure is 8 bars.

5. Gameplay:
The combat will consist of two rounds. Each round will involve fight among the robots but the duration
and marking scheme will be different.
ROUND 1: This round will be of 5 to 8 minutes. This will be simply a one-to-one combat round in
which the bots will be awarded marks for their attack and defense strategies and for making the

opponent immobilized i.e. for winning the round. In this round after regular intervals of 30 seconds of
fight there will be a 15 second duration in which the bots will be given double the usual marks if they
successfully attack or defend themselves against an attack.
In this round the fight must be continuous, a break of duration greater than 10 seconds is not allowed
during the match as then marks will be deducted.
The teams winning their respective matches will be eligible for qualifying this round. Of these teams
those will qualify for second round which will score marks greater than the limit set by the organizers.
This limit will be set at the spot only.
Round 2: This round will be a knockout round in which the bot surviving through all the matches will
win the round.
In this round the arena will be divided into 3 regions:1. Green: In this region it will be compulsory for the bots to make an attack and indulge themselves in
fight more aggressively; failing which marks will be deducted ( that is the bot leaves this region without
making an attack). This region will have some patches of rough surface as well on which the bots will
have to move at least once during the match.
2. Yellow: In this region patches of grease will be present. The attacks and defenses made in this region
will score more marks than in green region. However, making no attack in this region will not lead to
any deduction of marks.
3. Red: In this region, making an attack or successfully defending against it will make the participant
win the highest marks. In this region if a bot is thrown out of the arena by the opponent, the opponent
will straight away win the match; scoring the highest marks.

1.

A robot is declared victorious if its opponent is immobilized.

2.

A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least two inches in a timed
period of 20 seconds.

3.

In case both the robots remain mobile at the end of the round then the winner will be decided on the basis
of the total scores, given according to the performance and other parameters such as design etc as
mentioned below.

4.

A robot that is unsafe, as deemed by the judges, will be disqualified immediately and the opponent robot
will be declared as the winner.

5.

Every match will consist of 3 rounds of 4 minutes each and each subsequent round will have a time gap
of 3 min.

6.

If a robot is thrown out of the arena the round will stop immediately, and the robot still inside the arena
will automatically be declared as the winner of that particular round.

7.

Robots cannot win by merely lifting their opponents. Organizers will allow lifting for a maximum of 20
seconds for each lift and then the attacker robot will be instructed to release the opponent. If, after being
instructed to do so, the attacker is unable to release, their robot may be disqualified.

8.

If two or more robots become entangled due to any reason and become trapped within another robot, then
the competitors should make the timekeeper aware and the fight should be stopped and the robots should
be separated by the safest means.

9.

Points will be given on the basis of aggression, damage, design, control and strategy.

a. Aggression Aggression is judged by the frequency, severity, boldness and effectiveness of attacks
deliberately initiated by the robot against its opponent. If a robot appears to have accidentally attacked an
opponent, that act will not be considered Aggression.
b. Control Control means a robot is able to attack an opponent at its weakest point, use its weapons in the
most effective way, minimize the damage caused by the opponent or its weapons and is able to release the
opponent as and when instructed by the organizers.
c. Damage Through deliberate action, a robot either directly or indirectly reduces the functionality,
effectiveness or defensibility of an opponent. Damage is not considered relevant if a robot inadvertently
harms itself. Also, if a pressure vessel or a rapidly spinning device on a robot breaks and hits the opponent
robot, damaging it, that damage will not be considered "deliberate".
d. Strategy The robot exhibits a combat plan that exploits the robot's strengths against the weaknesses of
its opponent. Strategy is also defined as a robot exhibiting a deliberate defense plan that guards its
weaknesses against the strengths of the opponent.
e. Design- The design of the robot will be judged according to its weapons, mobility mechanism, and the
ease with which it will make an attack and defend itself against an attack.
The marking of scores is completely under the control of the organizers and the definition of each
parameter is subject to changes.

6. Guidelines:
a. POINT/SCORING SYSTEM:
1. Round 1: The scores given in this round will be out of 10 for each of the mentioned parameters. For
each successful attack or defense a score of 5 will be added during 30 seconds durations. In the 15
second durations the scores awarded for each parameter as well as attack and defense will be double the
score that would have been awarded otherwise. A deduction of 5 to 10 marks will be if there is a break
of duration greater than 10 seconds depending on the duration for which the bots remained stationary
during the match.

2. Round 2: The marks awarded in each zone will be as follows:

a. Green: score out of 10 for each parameter, 5 for each successful attack or defense and deduction of 8
marks if no attacks are made while in this zone.
b. Yellow: score out of 10 for each parameter, 10 for each successful attack or defense. No deduction of
marks.
c. Red: score out of 10 for each parameter, 20 for each successful attack or defense, 50 for pushing a bot
out of the arena. No deduction of marks.
b. GENERAL:
1. If there is any kind of ambiguity in selection of weapon systems, please clarify the same with the event
organizers to avoid further confusion.
2. If the organizers doubt the safety of viewers due to a particular bot, then that team might be denied
participation.
3. The bot is not allowed to leave anything behind during the run. It should not leave any mark on the arena.
Any bot found damaging the arena will be immediately disqualified.
4. The time measured by the organizers will be final and will be used for scoring the teams. Time measured
by the contestant by any means will not be considered for scoring.
5. In case of any disputes/discrepancies, the organizers decision will be final and binding. The organizers
reserve the right to any of the above rules as they deem fit. Changes in rules, if any will be highlighted on
the website and notified to the teams.
6. The machines will be first checked for size and safety. The robots must not contain any combustible,
corrosive, or otherwise dangerous materials.
7. Any robot whose strategy or operation is considered dangerous can be disqualified by the judges at their
discretion.

7. Team Specifications:
1. Team may consist of a maximum of 4 members. Students from different educational institutes can
form a team.
2. All students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to
participate

8. Certificates and Prizes:

1. Top three teams will be awarded the certificate of excellence along with prizes.

The next five teams will be given certificate of participation.
