DESIGN PROBLEM:
A teacher retiree wanted to invest her money to create a new business.
Since she was a good cook and she enjoys eating she decided to partake in
creating a restaurant business. She taught that it would be best to innovate
the business and include a bar for the people to enjoy more.

To be able to start the business she wants to build a themed restaurant

which conforms to the late 50s recording studio Motown. She wanted a
building that exhibits the essence of Motown to be able to relay the young
generation the music and art that was present before.

The lot owned is situated in the corner of Taft Avenue and is situated along
the main road. The lot has a 10m width and a length of 8.20m. The slope is
flat. The resto bar shall have the following spaces.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.

Kitchen
Bar
Storage for the supplies
Toilet for customers
Changing room for employees
Dining area

*** Other necessary spaces can be added

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
To be able to create a design that can remind and help appreciate the past
art present.

DESIGN CONCEPT:
The concept of the design of the building is ECHO. I decided to use echo as
my concept not only because Motown was a famous recording studio but
also echo can symbolize the costumers going back in the restaurant because
they like the service, the atmosphere and the message that the owner wants
to convey. Also Echo is a reflection of sound, the structure can reflect the
past culture and art that was left behind in the past and it will remind other
people of this famous recording studio and the artist that it became famous.

BACKGROUND OF STUDY:
MOTOWN HISTORY

Motown is an American record company. It was founded by Berry Gordy, Jr.

as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, and incorporated as Motown Record
Corporation on April 14, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan. The name, a combination
of motor and town, has also become a nickname for Detroit. Motown played
an important role in the racial integration of popular music as an African
American-owned record label which achieved significant crossover success.
In the 1960s, Motown and its subsidiary labels (including Tamla Motown, the
brand used outside the US) were the most successful proponents of what
came to be known as the Motown Sound, a style of soul music with a distinct
pop influence. During the 1960s, Motown achieved spectacular success for a
small record company: 79 records in the Top Ten of the Billboard Hot 100
record chart between 1960 and 1969.

Gordy relocated Motown to Los Angeles in 1972, and there it remained an

independent company until June 28, 1988, when Gordy sold the company to
MCA and Boston Ventures (which took over full ownership of Motown in
1991). Motown was then sold to PolyGram in 1994, before being sold again
to MCA Records' successor, Universal Music Group, when it acquired
PolyGram in 1999.

Motown spent much of the 2000s as a part of the Universal Music

subsidiaries Universal Motown and Universal Motown Republic Group, and
headquartered in New York City. From 2011 to 2014, Motown was a part of
The Island Def Jam Music Group division of Universal Music. On April 1, 2014,
Universal Music Group announced the dissolution of Island Def Jam;
subsequently Motown relocated back to Los Angeles to operate under the
Capitol Music Group. It now operates out of the landmark Capitol Tower.

RESTO BAR
A restaurant which serves alcoholic drinks and has characteristics of a bar or
nightclub; a combined restaurant and bar.

DESIGN SOLUTION:

I have create a structure modern in exterior but the interior shows the
colorful ambiance present back then
I have made the interior festive looking for the customers to relax and at the
same time have fun
As for the exterior I have colored the walls red because according to the color
psychology it calls attention and it makes the customers wants to eat so I
have made use of red for a prosperous earning
I have created slanted windows which may serve as a roof also it can permit
light into the building to save energy
I also made the ceiling high to be able for the customers to no feel the small
space of the lot
I just include necessary spaces to conserve the space provided
I have made the exterior modern to be able for the customers to feel that
they have been on a time machine and be back in the 50s
