2. They forgot themselves when working long hours in their business and did not give the needed care and attention to their spouse.
Some business people totally forget what it means to have a
spouse at home and the responsibility and care that this requires. Using ones husband or wife as a slave in every occasion
leads to great unhappiness. Spouses may eventually seek divorce,
and hundreds of thousands of dollars will be lost on lawyers and
courts. Business people can fall into long months of irritation, which
poisons their nature and those around them, eventually affecting
even their business success. They may settle in court, but the misery of divorce hurts them and their children for many years to
come. Sometimes this irritation and hurt can manifest as physical
disease. The business person must pay for all of this.
I knew of a young, fast-track executive who married a beautiful
woman. After two years of being neglected, she filed for divorce.
The young man killed her, then committed suicide. One wonders
what kind of a business person he was when he neglected his wife
in favor of his business trips. How could such a business person
work against his own future?
A real business person is one who takes his family into consideration as part of his business, and takes care of them in such a way
that they add to his business endeavors and do not bring a cataclysm to the future of his business. So much money and suffering
can be saved if a business person dedicates a few hours a day to
respect and love his or her spouse and children and make them
happy.
3. They forgot themselves when working long hours in their business and did not give the needed care and attention to their health.
Some business people do not care about their health, yet they
hope to have wealth in the future. Some of them smoke heavily or
use various drugs. Others simply neglect the needs of their bodies:
they eat fast food and work marathon hours in the name of good
business. (When was poor time management ever considered good
business?) They ignore their bodies and the important role their

Ask yourself: For whom and for what are you making money?
Are you enjoying your money? Do you take vacations? Is your
income making your family healthy and happy?
4. They forgot themselves when working long hours in their business and did not give the needed care and attention to their neighbors.
Some business people do not even notice that their neighbors
exist, except when they have trouble with them. I knew a very
healthy and successful businessman who in anger shot and killed
his neighbors dog. The neighbor retaliated by shooting and killing the businessman. A smart executive knows that indulging his
own emotional whims can derail important business relationships.
A smart executive tries to work out solutions in the best interest of
all those concerned. With all of the business wisdom this man
possessed, why did he not take time to talk with his neighbor and
find an intelligent solution? The results of his stupidity caused
unending anxieties and difficulties for his family.
Here are a few other examples:
A good business person deals intelligently with all of lifes events;
he recognizes that they are factors for either making or losing
money.
A businessman watched with careless disregard as his neighbors house (with a child inside) burned. Another engaged in an
extramarital affair with his neighbors wife. The affair ended with
the husband coming home one day and killing his wife. A third
claimed it was not his business when he learned that a neighborhood house was being used by prostitutes for their encounters with
clients. After a few years time, his wife and children became contaminated by the atmosphere created by these neighbors. A good
business person deals intelligently with all of lifes events; he recognizes that they are factors for either making or losing money.
He knows that negligence is a very expensive weakness in business, and that failure to use discrimination can have fatal results.
He knows the importance of high morals and respect for his neighbor. A self-seeking business person caught in the rapids of ego and
vanity is taken quickly over the falls to his ruin.
Co-measurement is a business persons ladder of glory. Sharing
makes a business person more magnetic. All obstacles vanish in
front of a business person who does not manipulate, compete, and
exploit. These are the qualities by which a business person brings
prosperity, health, happiness, and success to his life and lives to
enjoy every moment of it.
It is not enough to be a genius at making money. Is your family
healthy and happy? Is there love in your home? Is your neighbor
respectful toward you and does he watch your children and home?
Is there a mutual affinity between you and your neighbor?
Lets look at the essential qualities which must be developed to
ensure success in business and in all areas of a business persons
life.
A great business person is a born psychologist and an honest
one.
An ingenious business person knows how to cooperate with his
competitors. He does not humiliate them. He does not make them
his enemy. He does not belittle them. He negotiates with them.
Negotiation means simply to come to a point of agreement where
he and his competitor see that, in the long run, cooperation is
more favorable than competition. We have seen several examples
of this during the past ten years. Successful alliances have been
formed between companies that were, in the past, fierce competitors. Negotiation also means that together competitors identify
and resolve their inner obstacles that stand in the way of their
agreement. Competition is a secret cause of all failure and destruction. In the short term, people love it, but in the long run, it is the
cause of their failure. Real business people have long-range visions
those that may reach as far as one hundred to two hundred
years into the future. Many fluctuations may occur along the way,
Torkom Saraydarian
but these business people keep their focus and, over time, are able
to show steady improvement. Their gift is giving the beauty of a
long-range vision.
The business person who thinks only of his present interests
lives in illusion. In reality, a business person is an agent for supercooperation. He does his job and vanishes. Others take his place.
The business goes on through various agents who continue to serve
its vision. The important thing is not the business person. It is the
business. To have a business and perpetuate it through changes and
improvements is the sacred duty of every business person.
Negotiation is a platform upon which you understand the difficulties and the subconscious urges and drives that stand against
you. A business persons role is to be genuine, to clear psychological and emotional difficulties within his business and with other
businesses, to resolve subconscious interferences, and to annihilate
all dark and hindering drives against cooperation. A great business
person is a born psychologist and an honest one; he wants to protect the interests of his competitor as well as his own.
Future businesses will eliminate competition because they will
see certain things:
Competition wastes natural resources.
In an effort to appear better than their competition, companies
waste money on excessive packaging and misleading advertising.
They embellish their products to a point that is not directly related to the purpose of the products.
Many little fish are swallowed by big fish.
Businesses should thrive based on the merits of the products
and services to the customer, not according to their ability to compete with powerful competitive strategies. Competition actually
works against free enterprise and the long-term survival of small
businesses.
Competition creates the causes for future failure.
Competition breeds generations of exploiters and manipulators
because it encourages and rewards these behaviors.
Careful analysis of the above statements will reveal the destructiveness of competition.
Because business people have considerable power over politicians, they must be extremely intelligent to know which chess
pieces to move. A wrong move can create agitation in an economy and many nations may collapse as a result. A business persons
intent must not be to exploit or manipulate businesses or nations,
but rather to show them how to eliminate competition and how to
have extremely successful lives through cooperation.
Real business people frequently make large contributions to religious, educational, and medical foundations, as well as to charities not for tax purposes, but to raise the living standards of the
people. These donations do not have strings attached to them.
Orders and plans are not given with them. Only the positive intent of the giver is stated, leaving the recipients free to spend according to their need. Real business people must also be careful to
guard their philanthropic activities against manipulation by the
ambitions of those who are close to them. I have seen, for example, cases where a greedy spouse controls the business persons finances to the extent that money intended for contributions is reallocated to serve the personal extravagances of the spouse. Business
people can become trapped in these situations to such an extent
that their responsibility to help others is not fulfilled. Business
people, therefore, must be very discriminating in their choice of
personal relationships. They must know that the motive of marriage is love, not money, and choose accordingly.
A business person can be a police officer, a priest, a lawyer, a
scientist, or a politician. Whatever he or she is, a business person
must live a beautiful and honest life.
In ancient traditions, earrings symbolized precious advice that
must ring in the ears of the wearer.
