Challenges:
Difficulty in finding persons who achieved success in football to conduct interview,
hence there was a small sample size. As a result less data than what was wanted was
available so results were limited.
Hard to find mutual times to construct interview as both interviewees had a busy schedule
but this was eventually resolved by planning a specific time for the interview
Piece 2 is has a high validity and reliability as the author specializes in this field. He has
done several sport interviews and frequently writes on sports occurrences happening
currently.
The source reliability is also high as The Gleaner is an established publication company
which have been around for a very long time, from 1834.
Data Sources
-
Small sample size as only two persons were interview, hence a variety of responses could
not be attained and this lowers the validity and reliability.
The interviewees were from the same geographical area as they were two boys.
The sampling method used to get the data sources was convenience sampling and this
could have affected the reliability and validity as the sources are not representative of the
success achieved by the average footballer.
Also the researcher and interviewees had previous relationships so rapport was already
built.
Medium
-
Context
-One interview was at the persons home and the other before school in the morning.
-Interview at the persons home is more valid and reliable as the person was in their place of
comfort and free from distractions and did not have to rush.
- One before school, the validity and reliability could be decreased as the interviewee had limited
time so questions were answered faster and enough time could not be given to formulate the best
response.
Summary: Success can be achieved through football in various ways. One way in which
football can provide success is that football is a career so persons who pursue it can become
successful as football provides a job and with this job comes financial benefit. This was shown
by the background sources who were paid for playing football by their respective clubs.
As discovered by the interviews conducted, the interviewees are examples of how football can
also provide success in the form of opportunities such as providing scholarships to colleges or
universities.
Also based on one of the interviewee, football also made the person able to represent his country
internationally and this is a form of success.
