Reaction on the Language Teaching-Learning Issues
I.

Summary
In the process of teaching-learning language, problems are
inevitable. A teacher could never expect students to master the
language in a blink of an eye, likewise, a student could never
have the perfect comfort and convenience in learning the
language. These problems directly affect the process. Few of
these issues are the following: a. Lack of motivation of the
learners which pulls them off from participation, defeating all
skills to be developed. This is very common among Grade 7
students especially in lower sections. These students lack the
motivation to listen and participate. b. Poor classroom
management which is a disturbance to the process, affecting
the learner physically and mentally. Reprimanding becomes a
neglected task hence, learners develop an intolerable behavior.
c. Teacher-student disconnect, putting everything in a puzzle.
The teachers effort will become one of the identified trashes in
the garbage bin, once the learners will not be able to
comprehend the teachers choice of words or way of speaking.
d. Language skill deficiency which is a growing problem in
various fields. Regardless of the learners readiness and
proficiency of the language, the No Child Left Behind policy
promotes the learners. e. Lack of constancy of the teacher
and lack of language practice of the learner. Teachers tend to
have a habit of using the vernacular language which is one of

the many reasons why learners lack the practice in using the
language in speaking.
II.

A. Positive Points Raised


Everything is multi-faceted. Though it is a problem, there are
always opportunities in it. In the first issue, lack of motivation,
teachers will be challenged to think and design various activities
to

motivate

the

learners.

This

will

cultivate

teachers

resourcefulness and skills. In resolving the last issue, lack of


constancy of the teacher and lack of language practice of the
learners, teacher will be able to practice and master the
language by constantly using it while learners will imitate the
teacher thus, they will be able to practice and improve their
speaking skill. The teacher and learners work hand in hand.
B. Negative Points Raised
There are certain things which can cause great disgust when
left neglected and unsolved. For an instance in the second
issue, poor classroom management, the teacher will become
part of the crime in producing ill-mannered, intolerable, and
disoriented individuals. Discipline is more important than
imparting knowledge then it must be taken into action first
before anything else. Another is the language skill deficiency,
the no child left behind issue. Education system had acquired
cancer. They are more concern on the performance rating of the
department rather than the quality of the product or learners.
There are those students who were really not able to reach the
passing grade for many reasons, even remediation fails to help
them and then instantly, without sweating, they got promoted.
This has become a toxin to every teacher, a question of

credibility. How can the teachers do the right thing if they are
ordered to do the wrong one?
III.

Recommendations
Issue no. 1: With the help of goggle, teachers can surf and
find effective motivational activities that can
arouse the interest of the learners. He can also
employ positive reinforcement by giving rewards,
a gift or bonus points perhaps. He can even use
multimedia presentations since the learners

today are fond of the various hi-tech stuffs.


As a teacher, we are equipped with disciplinary
skill and we only need to impose it. Seek help or
suggestions from colleagues or school head. If all
the strategies failed to take effect, call the
attention of parents or guardians with the
guidance counselor. Trace the problem, why the
child behaves the way he/she does. Once the

Simply, we will lower our standard to their level
but not to the extent of losing substance. In
lowering our standard, we should always keep in
mind that we still need to grow and boost our
competence and more importantly, we need to
develop them to be competent by providing

we really lack the skill, we can enroll at speech
centers. Consequently, when we are already
well-versed in the language we can command
students to speak English as well. Implement
Speak English Policy and create rules and
sanctions inside the classroom.
