Dearest Family in the Lord!

As we celebrated our second New Year together in prayer and praising, we searched for a Scripture that
might in part say how we feel about all of you. Here it is and it will also be our theme Scripture for the
year - we challenge you to memorize it, say it daily and remember to be thankful for our families in the

Lord - First Thessalonians 1:2..."We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in
our prayers.

As you know, 1979 was a joyous year for us in the service of our King. It also brought some sickness,
disappointments and changes in our schedule to meet His timing for us. God, true to His Word, did walk

with us through the Valley of the Shadow of Death and we again learned to fear no evil, for He is with
us. We know whom we have believed and we are persuaded He is able to keep that which we've committed
unto Him (Second Timothy 1:12).
We continue to ask your constant prayers for us in 1980, as we work and wait upon the Lord.

Charles has at this time resumed a modified schedule of taping broadcasts with his Co-Broadcaster, Tim
Wilson in Joplin, where we are temporarily home-based while we wait for the doctors release to resume

furlough reporting. We pray that this may be soon. Charles is doing muchbjetter, but still has lots of

respiratory^rpblems and tires very easily.

"

The Holidays spent with many of our family were a joyous time, saddened only by the serious illness of
Ivia's brother Richard, which resulted in emergency surgery. This is to be followed by a second operation
as soon as he's strong enough. We covet your prayers for him and we're thankful that he knows the power
of prayer.

^ews^om/tali'- is that the work is going on full-force under the guidance of Giu^pp.e^they send their
~gr^tingsmd assurance of their prayers to you. They are very concerned for Charles' health and
disappointed at the delay in our return.

We wish to thank all of you for your prayers, your help with medical bills, your beautiful letters and cards
and all. We're so humbly grateful to be a part of this big family of God. He's so good to us all, isn't He?!!

Hebrews 13:24

p. 2-

We are praying for Fall as the time to return to Italy. As we have shared with you, our hopes are to take
back with us the money to build a church-house in Terracina. Some of you - as groups and individuals have already responded to this appeal and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, as we know

Giuseppe and the other brethren in Terracina will. Many more of you might like to start the New Year by
saving the money from a cup of coffee a day or from a sweet your body does not really need and watch

that money grow for "Giuseppe's building." So far, just a little over 5% of the $25,000 has been designated
in the offerings.

Please mark clearly any contribution you intend specifically for the Building Fund. And we do ask that
you make a point of persistent prayer; we know you will respond as the Lord leads you.

Once again, let us say "Thank You" all of you - for caring and sharing as

"To God 3e The Glory - Great Things He Has Done!"

Dearest Friends in the Lord!
THE PHIPPS* RESUME FURLOUGH TRAVEL!

What a joyful ring this announcement

has for us!

Yes, the Lord willing, by the time this letter reaches you, we shall have
started the last part of our reporting to the churches and plan to return
to the field in late September or early October.

Through all that has happened to us in these past months, one lesson we
feel we've really learned is always to plan, then announce "the Lord
willing" we will be here or go there (James
At this time funds are very low and travel costs so high, we could not even
hope to start out, except for our wonderful Lord and His great people like
all of you.

But we feel like a beautiful song we have heard says: "He didn't bring us
this far to let us go - He didn't teach us to swim to let us drown!"

So we're counting on
^
as you pray and listen to His leading.
We're very eager to see all of you. Charles is feeling very well and we've
been working hard to get the car ready, the correspondence out, reporting
a little at a time close by (as Doctors, ordered - start slow and easy).
Charles and Tim are recording radio programs regularly,
the material and they do the recording together.

Charles writes all

We will be pulling a trailer this time, since Charles must take medicine

around the clock. ~Snd"it will be a big help in beating the very high cost
of motels and restaurants.

Our letter from Giuseppe - just received - tells us they are holding fast
and eagerly awaiting our return. As we see others returning to their fields

at the end of the school year, it makes us more and more eager by the day!
It's always sad bo leave and a joy to arrive, but God is so good to give
us His family no matter where we are. (Mark 10.28-30)
Now, dear friends, until we see you (may it be soon!), please know we love
you and thank each one of you for your help in the Lord's work in Italy
throuf^h us. God bless you much as top.ether we serve Him!

Summeri 1980
Dearest Christian Friendsi

We're on the "last lap" of our furlough report-tour!

But q,uickly we add, "the Lord willing."

What a beautiful sound!

God has been so good to us and as the time for our return to the field draws

nearer and nearer, we are very excited and extremely busy. Charles has been
working hard writing, and he and Tim taping radio programs to last until we
again tape in Rome.

We, of course, have mixed emotions as we stairt sorting, packing and shipping

to Italy...what to take? (very little)...what to send? (there are some musts).

For Charles, this time will be very different as he leaves the family he has
learned to love deeply. This is the time when we automatically turn to and
stand on the Lord's Scriptures..."No one who has left home or Inrothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or fields for Me and the Gospel will fail to

receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters,

mothers, children and fields - and with them persecutions) and in the age to
come, eternal life" (Mark 10:29-30) and "We know that in all things God works
for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His pur

pose" (Romans 8:28),

In at least partial fulfillment of His generous promise, God has given us our
beautiful family in Italy - Giuseppe and Rosetta, with Roberto and Daniela...
and the rest of the brethren and friends there.

Friends, God has been so good to us in returning Charles' health so beautifully,

in giving us new contacts to explore for the needed funds to replace those lost
throu^ the sickness and death of precious saints who supported so regularly and
faithfully.
We have often been told that churches and individuals have not sent offerings to
us because we did not let them know we needed. So we are enclosing a separate

list of our present needs. They are extremely urgent. We'll thank you for your
prayerful consideiation.

The danger to the work the Lord has given us in Italy is not the threat of
Communism or violence or changes in government administrations..the threat

to our continuing in the work is simply iDS^f

Ullds

Please continue to pray for us in His work in Italy and via radio in Europe and
the U.K., as we pray and thank God for you daily.
With Christ's love and ours,

Charles and Ivia
