Martinez, A, AJ Snyder, and GA Smith. "Home Exercise Equipment-Related Injuries

Among Children in the United States." Clinical Pediatrics. 50.6 (2011): 553-8. Print
1. This article is a study that explores home exercise equipment-related injuries. Its
focus is on children from ages 5 to 18 years old. The data collected was from the
National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS). Injuries in this study
ranged from a sprain to fractures and broken bones. The years this study focuses on
is from 1990 to early 2000s. The way the NEISS got their data is by medical records
because these children were treated in US hospital emergency departments.
2. My inquiry topic is how to properly use exercise equipment. This source will help
me understand how to properly use exercise equipment because it tells me what type
of injuries children got from different types of exercise equipment and that will help
me figure out what not to do while using those pieces of equipment.
3. I know this is a credible source because I found it on the UNCC library website and
made sure that it was peer reviewed before I even opened up the source. I, also, know
it is credible because of where the study received its data from - National Electronic
Injury Surveillance System and medical records from US hospitals.

Livefit7. "How to Use Machines at Gym Effectively Workout.MP4." YouTube. YouTube,

2011. Web. 26 Mar. 2016. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dE8m2LPm2Ac>.
1. This video is from the Live Fit Fitness Training Center. Carl is one of the personal

in the gym to help people like me understand how to use the machines effectively. He
is there to try to motivate the viewers to live a healthy lifestyle and be able to get a
full body workout the proper way. He goes through about 8 machines and does arms,
legs, butt, and abs.
2. My inquiry topic is how to properly use exercise equipment. This source will help
me understand how to properly use exercise equipment because the video is shot in a
gym and there is a personal trainer explaining how to use different pieces of
equipment in order to get a good workout and be able to use the equipment properly
and effectively. This source shows me machines that I never thought of using, simply
because I did not want to look dumb in the gym trying to figure out how to use it.
3. I know this is a credible source because the person explaining how to use the gym
equipment is a personal trainer at a gym. I viewed many of the comments below the
video and most all of them are positive comments about how he actually helped them
and how they tried out his way on the machines and it has been working for them. I
looked into the Life Fit Fitness Center and it is all about personal trainers and helping
others through an effective full body workout.
3. Kane, L. "A Home Gym You'll Actually Use." Medical Economics. 76.24 (1999). Print.
1. This article is based off of people who have researched gym equipment to buy to use
at home. They give advise on how to use different types of gym equipment and gives
their personal opinion on the different machinery. This source focuses on the cardio

side of gym equipment such as: treadmill, elliptical fitness cross-trainer, crosscountry skier, rowing machine, stair stepper, and stationary bike.
2. My inquiry topic is how to properly use exercise equipment. This source will help
me understand how to properly use exercise equipment because it does not only list
different pieces of equipment that would be good to get a workout on, but, also,
informs the reader of what type of workout each machinery will give you. I like that
it is based off of regular people that have busy lives and jobs that need to get a quick
workout in because it helps me see that they are still in shape and can get a quick
workout fit into their busy days.
3. I know this is a credible source because it was found on the UNCC library website
and I do not believe the library would out an incredible source up on their page. It is
from Medical Economics so the reader knows that it has been backed up with
credibility. Also, the person giving advise on the different kinds of equipment is a
doctor, therefore the reader knows that it is credible.
