How to Install Microsoft Forefront Client Security (Windows 7)

1. In Internet Explorer, please go to the following site: http://its.vanderbilt.edu/antivirus/downloads

2. Scroll down to Windows Software, and look for Microsoft Forefront Client Security. Click Download now next to
Microsoft Forefront Client Security.

3. When the Windows Security window opens up, put in your VUNetID and your e-password. Then click OK.

4. When the file download window opens up, click Run.

5. The file will be downloaded and then installed on your computer.

6. When a User Account Access Control window opens up asking if you would like to allow changes, click Yes.
7. When a WARNING message opens up telling you that Microsoft Update must be enabled, click OK to continue.
Instructions on how to check this will be covered in another set of instructions.

8. When the WinZip Self-Extractor window opens up, click Setup to begin the Setup.

9. A couple of progress bars will pop up and a command prompt window will open, and then a Microsoft Forefront
Client Security window will open up. Check the checkbox for I accept the terms in the license agreement, then
click OK.

10. After some time, another window will open up telling you that Microsoft Forefront Client Security installed
successfully. Click OK to continue.

11. If you have Microsoft Updates already enabled, then the definitions will begin to download automatically. A
window will pop up in the bottom right telling you this. When the definitions have completed downloading then
the Microsoft Forefront Security icon (in the system tray by the clock) will turn into a green check mark like this:
If you get a window poping up saying that No new defintions or updates are available then you need to
enable Microsoft Updates.
12. If you do not have Microsoft Updates enabled, then we will have to enable them. If you need to enable
Microsoft Updates then go to step 13, if you have a green check mark now, then you are done with your
installation.

13. The following instructions are for enabling Microsoft Updates. Open up Internet Explorer (must be this browser)
and go to the following link: http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us
14. Check the check box to agree to the terms of use for Microsoft Update. Then click Install.

15. At the User Account Access Control window click Yes to allow changes.
16. Windows Update will now open and check for updates. Once it has found updates, click Install updates and
then OK. This may install other updates besides Microsoft Forefront Security.

17. To install updates for just Microsoft Forefront Security and not everything else, please do the following. Double
click on the Microsoft Forefront Client Security icon in your tray next to your clock. You may have to click on the
up arrow to see it. The icon should be either a green check mark or a orange exclamation mark.

18. Once Microsoft Forefront Client Security opens up, click Check for Updates Now. Updates will begin
downloading.

19. The update process could take a couple of minutes the first time, but once you achieve a green check mark icon
in your tray, then you are good to go.
