PREFACE
In the B.B.A. faculty only the theoretical knowledge of
business is not enough for achieving all over knowledge of
business management, practical training is also important as
almost all aspects of human life keeping this in mind, Saurashtra
university has include the subject of practical studies or
industrial training in B.B.A. of 10 days in S.Y.B.B.A.
The industrial activity plays a crucial role in over all
economic growth of the developing countries like India, in India
Gujarat is one of the industrial developed states.
I had attended on industrial training at ECHJAY
INDUSTRIES PVT LTD, Rajkot. It is well known forging unit
using advanced technology and equipment. The report submitted
here, which provide all information that I have obtained my
practical training at ECHJAY INDUSTRIES PVT LTD.

INTRODUCTION
Today, market is Global. Every Industry and Organization is
engaged in tough competition to survive in this global market. Every
industry uses their strategies and working to compete with each other.
Due to technology and industrial development India is thriving towards
development and a better industrial face. Industry is divided into 3 major
segments- a) Agriculture, b) Manufacturing and c) Service.
.
Echjay Industries Pvt. Ltd. is large-scale industry, which have very
good name in the forging industry. Recently, Echjay has been getting
certificate of ISO/TS-16949. In India only 7 company and in the world 60
company have this certificate. So, this is the big achievement at the
company.
Echjay Steel is also one of the Industries producing steel forging
To a large even this company Imports machinery from the foreign
countries end exports its finished products to many European countries.
Company's customer in India are BHEL, Reliance, GNFC, IPCL,
ONGC, GAIL, Mahindra & Mahindra, Telco, GSFC, IOCL, Railway
Board, VSSC and in the foreign Clibo Industries (USA), AL Husain
(Kuwait), etc.
Today, Echjay forged rings have become vital components of
AGNI LONG RANGE as well as technical missiles, main BATTLE
TANKS, armored Vehicles and other armaments.
This unit was established in 18 December 1971, at Rajkot. Its head
office is at Mumbai. The founder of this unit is Mr. Harilal Jaichand
Doshi.
In the initial stage this unit was started on small basis means, there
were only 100 employees and now days it has about 1400 workers. They
have developed about 100 types of products. It has 80 major customers
like Railways, Defense, ONGC refinery, petrochemicals etc.
Since last 30 years, Echjay steel industry has become large
manufacturers of steel forging and achieved a wide market.

HISTORY OF THE ORGANIZATION


Having well established in art industries, the founder-chairman,
late Shri Harilal Jechand Doshi, foresaw great potential in the field of
steel forging also. The name of the company denotes is founder name
means ECH denotes H means Haribhai, JAY denotes J means
Jechand. So, the companys name selected from German language. Thus,
ECH (H) JAY(J) industries pvt. Ltd. signifying his name came into being
as modest forge shop in the year 1971.
Since then Echjay has systematically grown into large scale
manufacturers of steel forging using advanced technology and equipment.
The company products that strictly conforms to international
specifications and standards of quality.
A decade ago Echjay steels division, forged into space-age when its
profiled rings played an important role in the fabrication and successful
launch of Indias SLV rockets. Today Echjays forged rings have becomes
the vital components of the Agni, Rohini, long range and technical
missiles, main battle tanks, armored vehicles and other defense
component. In the civil sector, Echjays wheels constitute a substantial
part of the Indian railways.
Echjay has been exporting flanges and other forging over to
developed countries like USA, CANADA, UK, FRANCE, GERMANY,
JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, as well as SOUTHAFRICA.
Reliably supplying to such a broad spectrum of users with both
standard and custom built forgings, Echjay has built up a reputation for
excellence in quality and services all over India and in several countries
around the world.
With an investment of Rs. 100 crores in its plant and machinery
and a turnover of Rs. 60 crores Echjay has in built capacity to produce
2400 tones of forging per annum. The on going modernization plans
cover not only updating equipment but also includes intensive training of
workforce to certain process wastage and to optimize energy
conservation.
The main stem for this success is high standards of quality that
Echjay has attained. Fine tuned checks of every stage of production are
features of background and forward integration.

Location play most important part in establishment of company
located one place then it is very difficult to change it or impossible so
promoters must think it base decision and success or failure of company
mainly depend on it. The decision regarding the location of the plant is
very important for any organization. Location affects the cost structure
and profitability of the plant thought its operating life.

Echjay steel is located near Rajkot in Lalpari Lake, which is an
industrial zone, and company gets all the infrastructure facility at
concession rate. Echjay steel got help from the government and labor
available in this zone at nominal wage so we can conclude that company
is located at appropriate place.

INTRODUCTION
Production is the basic activity of any organization. Production is
the process of converting raw material into finished goods which are sold
in the market. Every customer wants only finished goods. Their wants are
only satisfied by finished goods. Hence every production organization
engaged themselves in formation and transformation of products and
hence utility is gain through this process. Utility of the product means
want satisfying power of that product.
Company has a large production department. Company has divided
production department into the different shop. Company is doing
following types of jobs:
General forging including low temperature service steel ring, Disc,
Quip Steel, Bolts, Pipe fittings, Diesel & Automobiles engine parts,
Railway parts & components of Defenses.
Company is well known ISO/TS-16949 certified Forge Company
given by the international automobile organization. For company
manufacturing automobile component as per there stringent regulation.
Company has to produce forging as per as national & international
standards.

PRODUCTION PLANNING & CONTROL


Products are manufactured by the transformation of raw material
into finished goods. This is how production is achieved. Planning looks
ahead, anticipates possible, difficulties and decide in advance as to how
the production, best be carried out. The control phase makes sure that the
programmed production is constantly maintained.
PPC comprise the planning, routing, dispatching in the
manufacturing process so that the movement of material, performance of
machines and operation of labor however are subdivided and are directed
and coordinated as to quantity, quality, time and place. Planning and
control are two basic and interrelated managerial functions. They are so
interrelated that they can be and often are considered as being one
function. Planning is the preparation activity while control is the postoperation function.
Echjay has a PPC Department. PPC Department & Marketing
jointly works. First, marketing department take the basic information
about the order from customer. Then marketing department is given this
basic information to the PPC Department.
All the departments of the company are interconnected with the
computer network. Daily information is updated in computer about
production, raw material, finished goods, etc.
PPC department studies the feasibility after securitization, which
sends IT report to marketing department, which finally decides, about
order acceptance.

PRODUCTION PROCESS
In the production department manufacturing is the core activity and
company always try to maintain a low manufacturing cost can take place
with the help of increase the productivity & Reduction in variation &
waste. Echjay has a good machinery and equipment for a manufacturing.
Company has a CNC machine for doing best quality work with minimum
manufacturing cost.
Echjay steel produce different steel products so it is not possible to
describe manufacturing process for each product but the basic production
process is almost simple and it is describe in the next point of
manufacturing process chart. In Echjay there is one computer room where
products are designed as per requirement or manufacturing.

LIST AND PURPOSE OF THE MACHINERIES


1. HAMMER: A range of pneumatic drop closed die forging hammers
up to 5 ton capacity to produce.
Automotive and general engineering industry forging up to
150 kgs
1/2" to 12" flanges

Presses & Ring Rolling

2. PRESS AND RING ROLLING:


1000 Ton Press: A hydraulic open forging press of Japanese
make equipped with mobile forging manipulators up to 5
Ton capacity to manufacture blanks for the ring rolling and
open forged discs up to 2500 mm dia.
2500 Ton Press: A fully automatic 3-station hydraulic press
equipped with robotic arm to manufacture profile shaped
close die blanks for the ring rolling machine and to
manufacture closed die forgings up to 350 kgs.
Ring Rolling Machine: A numerically controlled axial and
radial ring rolling machine of 63/80 Ton capacity for
manufacture of rectangular and profiled rings of up to 3
meter diameter and flanges from 12" to 80" size.
3. THE AXIAL CLOSED DIE ROLLING: The Axial Closed Die
Rolling Line consists of three machines, viz. A 1600 Ton automatic
multi-stage blanking press; a radial ring rolling machine; and an axial
closed die finishing press. This is a fully automatic, synchronized
and continuous line, controlled by a centralized control panel. The
cut pieces are upset and blanked in the 1600 Ton press and
transferred to the ring rolling machine, where the inside diameter and
outside diameter are expanded to pre-determined shape. The piece is
then transferred to the axial closed die rolling machine, where it is
finished to near-net shape. Axial die-rolling takes place in a partially
closed die. The significant feature of the process is the conical upper
tool. It rotates about an axis which is slightly inclined against the
vertical. The bottom die rotates about a vertical axis. Rolling occurs
as the upper tool moves towards the bottom die along a path

perpendicular to the face of the bottom die. Incremental forming


results from this interaction between tooling and forging.

4. HOT ROLLING: The hot rolling line consists of an induction heater,


a 2000 Ton Blanking Hydraulic Press of Schuler make, and a fully
automatic ring rolling machine. This latest and State-of-the-Art
transfer line consists of 2 ultra-modern robots for bringing the heated
parts into the press, forging within the press, and then for placing the
blanks on a conveyor for onward rolling. The entire dimensional
controls are fully CNC controlled to get an amazing degree of
repeatability, and process stability.
5. COLD FORGING: Brand New State-of-the-Art Cold Forging Press
with latest Technology to make Shafts and Pinions. Fully Automatic
Hydraulic Press of SCHULER Make equipped with 4 Stations. A
very efficient transfer device between the 4 Stations along with a
completely automatic feeder is inbuilt to achieve very high
productivity of 6 to 8 parts per minute.
6. CNC AND GEAR SHOP: Echjay's present production level of
machined components and transmission gears and shafts is 80000
numbers per month. Echjay has a full-fledged CNC and gear shop
consisting of:

7. MACHINE SHOP:

Echjay also has a separate machine shop consisting of :

a range of horizontal lathe machines for manufacture of flanges


and general engineering products
Range of vertical turning machines up to 3 meter dia for
manufacture of rings, discs, tube sheets, railway tyres, etc.

8. CROWN WHEEL AND PINION GEAR CUTTER: For supply of


fully finished crown wheels and pinions, a separate facility has set
up in Pune.
This factory has the following facilities:

INVENTORY CONTROL
The word inventory is commonly used in to describe the goods and
materials that a business holds for the ultimate purpose of resale. There
are three basic reasons for keeping an inventory:
1. Time - The time lags present in the supply chain, from supplier to
user at every stage, requires that you maintain certain amounts of
inventory to use in this lead time. However, in practice, inventory
is to be maintained for consumption during 'variations in lead
time'. Lead time itself can be addressed by ordering that many
days in advance.
2. Uncertainty - Inventories are maintained as buffers to meet
uncertainties in demand, supply and movements of goods.
3. Economies of scale - Ideal condition of "one unit at a time at a
place where a user needs it, when he needs it" principle tends to
incur lots of costs in terms of logistics. So bulk buying, movement
and storing brings in economies of scale, thus inventory.
The inventory control is done for three things: 1) raw material, 2)
work in progress and 3) finished goods.
PPC department maintains the 2% to 3% inventory level. Company
has a very low inventory level. Finalize the order, after PPC department
give the order of raw material as per the requirement. Finished goods are
dispatches as per the customers' requirement. Low inventory level means
low inventory cost. Echjay maintain very effective inventory level.
PPC department collects all the information about the daily
production detail, stock of raw material, finished goods etc. with the help
of computer network.

QUALITY PHILOSOPHY
India has a large manpower and raw material available like USA,
U.K., AUSTRALIA, CANADA, GERMANY, etc. This given an
advantage of producing resources at much cheaper price comparing to
other countries. That's why India has a chance to get manufacturing order.
But India is looked down for its quality assurance. Hence automobile
spare parts importing company prefer to purchase their components from
the reputed supplier or from the ISO/TS-16949 certified company which
gives assurance about the standard quality products. Following are the
company quality policy and objectives.

PLANT MAINTAINANCES
Every firm or an organization needs effective plant maintenance. It is
very importance for better working of production processes and other
plant work.
There is separate team kept for plant maintenance which works under
site manager and foreman.
Company using two different type methods for plant maintenance.
Break down Maintenance
Preventive Maintenance
Company has one maintenance department. In the break down
maintenances, whenever any break down or fault arise in the plant then
inform the maintenance department and they are check the problem.
Preventive maintenances is done before the breakdown of any
machinery decided by the factors like total life of the machine, last
maintenances performed; decide by the export change in the noise of the
machine, heating of the machine. These all are sensory facts which one
can sense whether the machine require the maintenances or not and
studying the past history of the each machine, the break down can be
prevented eventually from its break down point.

MATERIAL HANDELING
The material handling process means movement of material from
one place to another place for the purpose of processing. They are moved
either manually or mechanically with the different type of material
handling equipment.
In Echjay every department is having a network of steel tracks for
moving the trolley with the goods department to another.
The jobs done by material handling equipment include lifting,
moving, dropping, positioning, holding, realizing, stocking, etc.
In the shop, heavy material transfers with the help of overhead
Crain. So, company has to maintain very effective material handling and
on the basis of this material transportation time is decrease in the
company and material is made available at the right time where it is
required.

SCRAP MANAGEMENT
Manufacturers do not intend or plan to make scrap, but depending
on the industry and the product, scrap is produced. But depending on the
type of scrap, it may be re-cycled back into the production process or sold
as a revenue generating product or simply non-recyclable and the
enterprise has to pay for an outside contractor to dispose of the product.
Scrap is a waste that either has no economic value or only the value of its
basic material content recoverable through recycling.
Echjay Industries Pvt Ltd have kept a separate team which does the
work of scrap management. The scrap management team consists of
people from furnace people and plant maintenance people. Basically all
the factory scrap is sold out to scrap dealers in a whole lot with a fixed
price according to its weight. Usually the scrap dealers are from SaaparVervar region and Rajkot district.

POLLUTION CONTROL
Pollution control means any attempt to reduce the contamination of
environment which might be created due to production process of the
firm. It is every firms or organizations social duty to take various
standard and strong steps towards pollution control.
Echjay Industries Pvt Ltd has installed a long chimney with filter to emit
less polluted smoke of the factory.Echjay Industries Pvt Ltd has got the
GPCB (Gujarat Pollution Control Board) certificate from government.
This means that the firm is using such production method and procedures
which create less pollution.

INTRODUCTION
Inputs of production organization have need inputs resources like
man, machine, money, method, and material. Out of these resources Man
is crucial factor of the organization.
"The Human Resource Management is the process of attracting,
holding and motivating people involving all managers-line and staff."
"The management of Man" is a very important and challenging job;
important because it is a job, not managing 'men', but of administering a
social system. The management of men is a challenging task because of
the dynamic nature of the people. No two persons are similar in mental
abilities, traditions, sentiments, and behavior, they differ widely also as
groups, and are subject to many and varied influences. People are
responsive; they feel, thin, and act; therefore, they cannot be operated like
a machine or shifted and altered like a template in a room layout. They,
therefore, need a tactful handling by management personnel.
In Echjay, labor unlike other factor of production is an active factor
and controls all other factors and coordinating them to get the maximum
output at minimum cost and also maintains development of man power
planning too.

It is easy to understand the organization of personnel department.


In Echjay, we know that General Manager is the key man. Under the
supervision of G.M., there is personnel manager who looks often
personnel department. Under the personnel manager personnel officer is
there and under personnel officer senior assistants are there and under
senior assistants are there and under assistants clerks and timekeepers are
there.
The company follows a line and staff type of organization structure
refers to the frame work of relation of each employee to the other. The

With this much staff at the disposal of Echjay it manages the large
scale organization in an efficient and economic way. The unit has a good
hold over the employees and the management of the employees is also
worth appreciating.

TIME KEEPING SYSTEM


Each unit has its own timekeeping system. Every company must
have timekeeping system to measure the regularity of its employees. In
time keeping system the arrival and departure of employees is recorded.

In every shift, they provide half an hour for lunch.


Timekeeping means how to work in the unit with a limited time. In
Echjay, there is a card system means when employees enter in the
company, he has to keep card with him and timekeeping office collects
the cad from worker everyday. On the basis of cards it makes note of
presence and absence of employees. They also make note of employees
who leave the organization before the duty time. They check leave report
of worker and the CL and EL at the end of the month.
This system is too much helpful in calculation of wages of
employees and workers.

RECRUITMENT, SELECTION AND ORIENTATION


Recruitment means search of prospective employees to suit the job
requirements. After the prospective applicants, right type of persons to

labors or workers are paid wages on the 7th of every month.
Salary means money paid periodically to persons whose output can

with two pairs of uniform per year. In the case of workmen of shop floor
it is a strong cotton uniform and in the case of supervisory and office staff
it is terry cotton of god quality.

INDUSTRIAL SHOES: All workmen are provided with the


best available industrial shoes in the country.

WINTER WEAR: All the workmen are provided with woolen


jersey once in three years. All drivers who are to be out n duty on odd
hours are provided with woolen suits.

SAFETY EQUIPMENTS: Interest free loans are given to

WORKING ON ESI & PF SCHEME


ESI: Employee state insurance is one of the most popular schemes
for the employees. The ESI scheme has been designed to the employee
under the workman compensation act of 1948. Persons having Rs.6500/monthly salary are eligible for ESI scheme. This scheme included
sickness, death benefits, accidents on duty etc.
For this scheme, in Echjay, 1.75% is deducted form the employees

PF: Provident fund scheme is a king of saving. Any company

I hereby conclude that my visit in M/s ECHJAY INDUSTIRES
PVT LTD really proved beneficial to me. I really got a great exposure in
production and marketing perspectives. I could able to learn the real
business scenario and working in the market. It is very important to learn
business in real life and to gain practical experience, which may prove
very helpful in our theoretical studies.
I am too much interest in entrepreneurship. To be real
entrepreneur and to gain entrepreneur skills, I really got a great

I was not able to apply the knowledge of business in real life
situation. But now after my practical studies in ECHJAY INDUSTIRES
PVT LTD, I could now relate my knowledge with real life applicability in
business perspective.
If I get chance and more exposure in business world, I would like

gain whenever I can get from them. The road to success in business can

Actually I am just a student and to write something as a part of
suggestion for such firm or organization is more than ability and out of
my scope. But the BBA faculty has involved practical study in BBA
course. So student has to work as their reports.
I would rather suggest ECHJAY INDUSTIRES PVT LTD to give
me any suggestion to improve my way of dealing with business aspects
and how to develop my entrepreneur skills and abilities. Suggest me the
different ways from which I can able to learn more and more and how to
gain more practical knowledge.
Instead of suggestion, I would prefer to write experience report
which I have gain from ECHJAY INDUSTIRES PVT LTD.
Yet small suggestion for the firm can be that the firm should invite
more and more such students from different universities and set up a
learning camp in their firm and university faculties should also help such
firm in that process. In this way student can able to learn the practicality
aspect of business world and even the firm or organization can get new
and innovative ideas from students.
