Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Exulting in the Lord

God is exalted, that is, elevated as the Most High, above

all things, idols, and people in preeminence. But we also
have the privilege of exulting in the Lord (1 Samuel 2:1).
We rejoice in His goodness to us and delight in His grace.
While we extol His virtues with great esteem and praise,
we also experience His blessings. The southern comedian,
Jerry Clower, famously said, Aint God good?!
I felt led recently to meditate about how we can set our
hearts to seek the Lord, particularly in prayer during our
worship services. We truly want to bless God from the
House of the Lord (Psalm 118:26). Therefore, I will take the unique approach
this weekend in preaching, teaching, and directing us in prayer according to our
study of 1 Samuel 2. Hannahs prayer of praise and thanksgiving will be a guide
for us to discover that there is no rock like our God (verse 2). Even if you feel
inadequate in talking to Him, the Lord will help you along with the people of God
and is eager to hear from you.
We also exult in Gods provision for staff needs. In two weeks, we will present
Mrs. Renee Blain in view of a call as our Preschool Director. She and her
husband, Wally, and their two daughters, Abbie and Allie, are heart-deep in the
service of the Lord and have been serving at the First Baptist Church of Temple
Terrace in Tampa, Florida for a number of years. She is Director of Preschool
Ministries and Event Coordinator in that good church, the same congregation
where Dr. Todd Stearns and Pastor Eric Yeldell served, at different times, as
Music and Worship Pastors.
Renee has a winsome and outgoing personality and is a graduate of Stetson
University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, focusing on Human
Resource Management. She is administratively gifted with great people skills.
She ministers to the parents as well as the precious little ones, maintaining
a work schedule for 100 volunteers on a weekly basis. She does volunteer
training, plans and implements curricula, and assists with events and details of
the larger church ministry. She also taught in their Wee World and is certified
professionally in early childhood development.
Just as the Lord immediately answered our prayer and opened the door for
Mark Bates to become our Pastor of Sports Outreach with the resignation of
Kevin Van Duser, so He quickly brought Renee to the attention of our Personnel
Committee. She will build on the 20 year ministry of Beverly Burgoyne. Beverly
will finish her ministry here after Vacation Bible School, then she and Paul will
move to be near family. May we continue to consider Gods wondrous works
and remember the abundance of His steadfast love (Psalm 106:7).
