It is well known to all of us that a large number of politicians, not only in
India but all over the world, are corrupt. Honest Politicians are a rare breed
now a days. Scams in India includes political, financial, corporate and
others.
Some of the major Political scandals in India are
Saradha
Group
Financial Scandal, Common Wealth Games Scam, Indian Coal Allocation
Scam, Uttar Pradesh NRHM Scam, 2G Scam and Uttar Pradesh Food Grain
Scam.

Corrupt Politicians in India are known to go unharmed and unpunished and
still remain at their valued positions as a leader. Saradha Group Financial
Scandal is one of the most notable scandals. It was reported in the year
2013 in West Bengal. It was associated with 40000 crores.
Due to this scam, Rajya Sabha MP, Kunal Ghosh is in jail since
November,2013 for interrogations. Odisha MP Ramachandra Hansda , MLA
Pravat Tripathi and two other politicians have also been arrested for this
scam.
The next biggest scam was the Commonwealth games scam. It was
reported in year 2010 in New Delhi and the scope of the scam was around
70000 crores. It included Suresh Kalmadi and Sheila Dixit.
It is assumed on the basis of data that out of Rs. 70000 crore spent on the
event, only half of the amount was spent on Indian sportspersons. Central
Vigilance Commission, which was involved in probing the corruption in
various Commonwealth Games projects, has found many flaws such as
discrepancies in tenders, willful delays in execution of contracts, and
bungling in purchase of equipment through misappropriation of funds.

Corruption has now been very common in civil services. In case of
complaints against highly placed officials, it can be observed that
enquiries are set up, vigilance agencies are set in motion quickly to pacify
the people and the media, but it is rarely seen that the accused officials
are punished. The Santhanam Committee has said that there is a belief

that while governments were against corruption, they were definitely not
against corrupt individuals, if such individuals had the requisite amount of
power, protection and influence.
Indian Coal Allocation Scam in 2012 is yet another popular scam including
a total of 185,591 crores. Under this, coal blocks were allotted, not
auctioned, leading to estimated losses as per the Auditor General of India
and Comptroller. Supreme Court cancels all 214 coal blocks allocations
since 1993. Government has said to e-auction the coal blocks.
2G Scam in 2008 is also quite famous known of having a monstrous scope
of 176000. A. Raja, M. K. Kanimozhi, Nira Radia, and many
telecommunications companies were involved in the scam.Under this ,
communication bandwidth was auctioned for lower than market value.
Do you know that A. Raja and M. K. Kanimozhi have been in Tihar Jail for
15 months and 5 months respectively? They have been charge framed.
Uttar Pradesh NRHM Scam is also a notable scam In Uttar Pradesh in 2012
involving 10000 crores. Mayawati and Babu Singh Kushwaha were
associated with this. IAS Pradeep Shukla and Babu Singh Kushwaha are
behind bars for their involvement in NHRM scam.
