In the manufacturing of cream cheese, the flow rate of the buttermilk
is measured at the inlet of the centrifuge, after the buttermilk has
been pasteurised. After the failure of the existing magnetic inductive
flow meter, which had been in use for almost 20 years, the search
for a suitable replacement proved to be unexpectedly difficult.
Current magnetic inductive flow meters largely work with much
lower magnetic field strengths. Various tests with modern magnetic
inductive flow meters did not yield satisfactory results where
reliability and precision of the measurement were concerned.

Non-invasive ultrasonic flow measurement provides a reliable, high-
precision solution for this measuring challenge. In addition to simply
fulfilling the task at hand, this procedure also offers other benefits:
The measuring device can be installed and commissioned very
quickly, without work on the piping and without downtimes.
Furthermore another convincing argument speaks for non-invasive
technology: The ultrasonic clamp-on transducers are simply
clamped onto the pipe from the outside and do not make contact
with the medium flowing within the pipes. Therefore this measuring
procedure is optimal from a hygiene point of view. The transducers
are also not subject to any wear caused by the CIP cleaning cycles
that are commonly used in the food industry.
