EM Implementation Path
Fast, space-efficient installation requires only a database
Database repository templates are available
EM 12c installation results in one host under self-monitor
Agent deployment extends the enterprise monitoring scope
Plugins extend the agent target scope

Simple Installation
Installation results in this view of a minimal (one agent/host + resident targets) enterprise:

Note that the repository database is on a remote host and is not yet represented

EM Configuration for Operation

Software Library establishes provisioning capability
Provide MOS credentials

MOS is accessible from the console (Incident Manager, SWB)

Self Update downloads a new catalog daily
Offline options

Target Life Cycle Management

Software Provisioning:
Agent is representative of other software types (patch, plugin, product) and

is needed for monitoring expansion

Software download and deployment are managed through EM

demonstrations: 04_agent_download (2:06, see Note 1586842.1), 05_agent_deploy_b (2:06, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Life Cycle Management

A word about plugins
The agent installs with some default discovery plugins (DB, FMW)
As targets are added, the monitoring plugins are automatically

downloaded and installed at the target host agent location

As new versions of plugins are made available, the user can download

and apply the new plugins to existing targets

Plugin Manager allows the user to see what plugins have been deployed

and manage the distribution of new plugins as they become available

New information about plugins comes from the Self Update catalog

downloaded daily
demonstration: 06_tgtdiscovery_b (3:09, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Life Cycle Management

Target patching:
Helpful approach to routine SPU/PSU patching

Download and deployment are managed through EM

Agents can also be patched, OMS and repository database cannot, through

console

demonstration: 08_patchdeploy (4:19, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Monitoring - Metrics

Numerous metrics are functional out of the box
The EM Summary page and each target page show tabulated metric data

and graphs
A large number of metrics are collected and many have default trigger

levels set for warning and critical thresholds

Threshold levels can be set or modified on individual metrics

The Monitoring Template allows the user to define a non-default set of

thresholds customized to the environment

Metrics form the measurements behind Events

demonstration: 09_metrics (3:29, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Monitoring - Metrics

Events are alerts of a triggering condition (metric)
One or more events or can be defined as incidents for management

Notification methods can extend beyond the console alert

Email notification requires these steps:
Configure for outgoing mail server
Enter administrator email
Provide notification schedule
Associate notification with a Rule

demonstrations: 10_events (3:33, see Note 1586842.1), 11_notifications (6:22, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Management - Jobs

Job system is the basis of actions through EM
Many jobs have been run in the process of post-installation configuration

(agent download, apply and deploy)

The user can define jobs to run commands on the OS, RMAN operations

and SQL scripts, amongst others

Job status changes can be defined as events in order to allow convenient

notification by defining the Job Event

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/jobs.htm#CHDDGHAC

demonstration: 12_jobs (3:33, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Management - Credentials

Stored credentials allow for easy access to the enterprise components, like

hosts and databases

Types of credentials used for automatic target access

Named credentials (access by name in EMs LOVs)

Preferred credentials (stored by target)
Overriding credentials (allowed in job setup)
Privilege delegation

demonstration: 13_creds (2:35, see Note 1586842.1)

Target Management - Target Control
