Windows 7 Firmware Download Instructions

One time set-up instructions:


This document assumes that the user has received the appropriate files necessary for firmware download.
1) You will need to activate the TFTP program on your computer; it is in Windows 7, but not activated.
At the search bar type in features. Then Select Turn Windows Features On or Off. This will bring
up a list of features that can be activated or de-activated. Find TFTP Client and check the box; the
select OK. The TFTP client is now activated.
2) Place the batch file (.bat) and binary file (.bin), on your desktop.
3) Create a DOS screen short cut and place on your desktop.

Go to windows explorer
Go to C:\Windows\System32
Locate CMD.exe
Right Click the file
Choose Send To
Select Desktop (create shortcut), see below.

Right click on the DOS icon on your desk top.


Select properties.
Select Advanced tab.
Check Run as administrator and OK.

8) At this point, you will need to change your IP address of your computer to a static IP address that
matches the first three octets of the nodes you are updating.
9) To change the IP address of your computer, you must have administrative rights.
10) Left click the START button and select Control Panel.
11) Click on Network and Internet
12) Click on Network & Sharing Center.
13) This will show your available connections, e.g. Wireless, Local Area Connection, etc.
14) Select Change adapter settings

15) Double click on Local Area Connection; the Local Area Connection Status box will appear, see
below.

16) Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)


17) Click on the Properties tab; the Networking box will show up, see below.

18) Select Use the following IP address this allows you to put in a static IP address for your laptop. The first three
octets of your computer must match the first three octets of the node(s) you are trying to communicate with;
see above listing for the correct facility. You will want to make sure the last octet does no match any of the
nodes you will be communicating with.
19) The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. If you click in the subnet box it should add them.
20) Select OK, then Close, then Close again.
21) You can minimize the Active Networks box.

22) You should now verify that your computer is set to the static IP address.
23) Connect a node, to your computer Ethernet connection), and power it up.
24) Open up a DOS screen and type IPconfig at the prompt.
25) The IP address listed for your Local Area Connection should match what you entered.

Actual Firmware Update Instructions:


1) You are now ready to perform the download procedure.
2) Open up the DOS prompt on your desktop00-19-c1, a DOS screen will pop up.
3) The current directory, C:\Windows\system32, needs to be changed to the directory that batch files
and binary files are located (e.g. step 2 above).
4) You can follow the DOS command below: cd c:\users\welkerJeff\desktop (again, Replace
Welkerjeff with your name; e.g. Smithb), and hit enter. Yours will be last name, first initial.

5) At the c:\Users\xxxxxx\Desktop> prompt type: tftp-load


6) It will ask you for the IP Address: Enter the IP address of the node you are working on, and then
enter.
7) It will ask you for the MAC Address: Enter the MAC Address of the node you are working on, and
then enter. (this is displayed on the display of the node. Be aware that the leading 0 is missing on
the display. The MAC Address will always begin with 00-15-24)
8) It will ask you for the interface name:
9) It will ask you for the Image File. This is already in the batch file and does not need to be reentered; just hit enter.
10) The IP Address, MAC Address, and the Image File will re-list and Proceed [Y/n]: will list.
11) Type Y and wait; see below.

Push NEXT on the graphic display until Diagnostics is shown


Push SET to enter the menu
Push NEXT to move through the Diagnostics menu until LOAD FIRMWARE is shown
Push SET to enter the menu
Select yes by pushing SET and then NEXT until YES is highlighted.
Push SET to select YES
Push SET again to confirm choice
Display should start flashing WAITING FOR FIRMWARE LOAD
Click enter on the computer in DOS
You will see a transfer successful message in DOS if everything transferred OK

Wait for the G3 node to reset on its own. Before turning off the power to the node
You may confirm the successful firmware download by verifying the firmware revision
on the G3 web page or through the display.
