The EPC network elements interface with the 5620 SAM using various network management protocols,
including SNMPv2, SNMPv3, and NETCONF
The 5620 SAM uses:

SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 to manage the 7750 MG. (SGW and PGW)

The 5620 SAM uses SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 and NETCONF to discover and manage a 9471 MME.

The 5620 SAM uses SNMPv2c to manage the 5780 DSC.

For more information about protocols used to manage EPC NEs, refer to the 5620 SAM LTE EPC User

Guide, Release 10.0, R1.

This diagram highlights the northbound interfaces for the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM).
5620 SAM uses JMS (Java Messaging Script) for its Northbound Interface (NBI) to the Network
Management System (NMS) for Fault Management, and SOAP-XML for the NBI to the NMS for
Configuration Management, Accounting Management, Performance Management, and Security
Management.
This course addresses only the EPC elements managed by the 5620 SAM.

The 5620 SAM interfaces use industry-standard protocols to communicate between the server and
managed network devices, the server and clients, and the server and database.
The 5620 SAM server sends messages to the managed network in the form of SNMP sets and
gets, CLI commands (over telnet or SSH), JDBC JMS messages, and FTP or SCP commands.
Client interfaces give access to the 5620 SAM server and managed network. Clients generate
messages to the 5620 SAM server to view and change data objects in the data model and to
perform network operations. The OSS clients use the XML/SOAP protocol over HTTP or HTTPS.
The client GUIs use Java session bean invocations.
