Introduction: Curzon Hall is one of the best architecture of Dhaka founded from
British ruling era. It is a part of faculty of science of Dhaka University situated
besides the High Court Street of Dhaka 1000. Its latitude is 23.7273416 and
longitude is 90.40184261. It is now the base of Universities science faculty. It has a
great fascinating history and it also played an important role in the economy of
Bangladesh.
History: Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India had a vision to make a town hall in
Bengal. With this vision he laid its foundation in 1904. For this the hall is named as
Curzon Hall. After one year, Bengal was partitioned and Dhaka became the capital
of newly created province of East Bengal and Assam. Then it has been used as a
premise of Dhaka College from 1911 till the establishment of Dhaka University in
1921. Now it is known as school of science building of Dhaka University. 2
A journey to Curzon Hall: Curzon hall is remembered due to several reasons. The
one of the most important reason is its unique architecture.
Architecture: Curzon hall has one of the best structural design in Dhaka
which has been created with a great mixture of European and Mughal style as
British Crown. It is the symbol of Mughal forms which has arches and domes.
It build with modern technology and use traditional art and functions. The
building color is red and has many domes. The interesting part of that
historical place is that till 1911 the building was used by Dhaka College. But
when Dhaka University established in 1921 and the hall was taken by the
University and it is using for the education purpose by the university. Now it is
a one of the tourist place in the country and it is definitely fascinate the
people.3
Transportation and Communication: For university students, Dhaka
University provides many buses to reach Curzon hall. Also there are many
bus or taxi services available that take people to this tourist spot. It is very
close to Paltan and Shahbag area. It is about 16.5 Kilometers away from
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. You can take bus, CNG or taxi to reach
this spot from the airport road. It may take up to 1 hour to reach the spot
from airport.4

Criticism: Each year highly trained or intelligent student from Curzon Hall emigrant
to other foreign country. Sometimes the university create the path for them. Though
this criticism not only for the student of Curzon hall. Here Curzon Hall used as just
an example.

Finally, Curzon Hall reminds us the two regime together- Mughal rule and the British
rule. Though British has exploited India continent but the made Curzon Hall shows
their contribution to this economy.
