Power Problems

SPIKES

Sharp increases in electrical

energy reaching as high as 600
volts and lasting up to second.

Spikes are caused by lightning, fluorescent

lighting, air conditioners, copy machines,
elevators, etc., resulting in data error and/or
hardware damage.

Power Problems

NOISE

High frequency interference

appearing on the AC line
Noise is caused by static, transformers, faulty
light fixtures, broadcast equipment, auto
ignitions, appliances, etc., resulting in garbled
data, keyboard lockups, and semiconductor
damage.

Power Problems

SAGS/
SURGES

Short duration changes

in voltage levels.
Sags or Surges are caused by the startup of
electric motors, air conditioners, transformers,
machine shops, utility switching, etc., resulting
in data errors, equipment overheating, and
premature equipment failures.

Power Problems

BROWNOUTS
Long duration decrease in
voltage (20% or more).

Brownouts are usually caused by peak period

overloads, power network switching, faulty
wiring, etc., resulting in data loss, hardware
damage, and equipment overheating.

Power Problems

BLACKOUTS
Complete Loss of power.
Blackouts are caused by downed power lines,
open circuit breakers, power plant failures,
etc., resulting in complete data loss, hardware
damage, and equipment overheating.

What Does Alpha Offer

to the AC UPS Market?

Indoor vs. Outdoor Product

Alpha provides long run time products for two main
markets: indoor and rugged or outdoor
applications:
Indoor Applications: applications with controlled
environment, mostly free of dust, and where the
temperature is between 0 and 40 C
Outdoor/Rugged Applications: Applications where
there may be one or all of:
Extreme temperatures
High humidity
Dust
Vibration

Key Features of Outdoor/Rugged UPS

Conformal coated PCBs protect against exposure to moisture and high humidity
environment
Designed to operate under extreme temperature conditions (-40C to +74C)
Made of rugged electric and electronic components:
due to the fact that the UPS is designed for extreme
conditions, the elements that make the UPS are also
designed for extreme conditions.

Thermostatically controlled battery heater mats available

Temperature compensation utilized to effectively manage
the battery charge voltage based on temperature
Remote monitoring via SNMP web-based communication

Built-in AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) allows for a wider input voltage range
for world-wide use
Enhanced surge protection capability (TVSS Transient Voltage Surge
Suppressor, LAP Lightning Arrestor Protection)
Enclosures meet specific ingress protection (IPXX) standard for extreme
environments (Zone 4 earthquake, rain test, dust, impact test, etc)

Tri Power X33 IGBT uses online double conversion (VFI) technology where the load is always powered
by the inverter ensuring a filtered and stabilized sinusoidal voltage. The IGBT rectifier technology
ensures a reduction of consumption of reactive power to minimum levels. This results in lower electricity
bills and smaller genset sizes. Small footprint and light weight makes installations easier and less space is
necessary. Compared to 6 or 12 pulse rectifier systems the heat dissipation is lower and the air condition
size can be dimensioned smaller. This results in less CO2 production saving money and protecting our
environment. The Tri Power X33 IGBT UPS can be used for any kind of load i.e. IT, Industry and
Telecom.

Tri Power X33 HE uses online double conversion (VFI) technology where the load is always powered by the
inverter ensuring a filtered and stabilized sinusoidal voltage manufactured with the state of the art IGBT rectifier
technology. Offering high efficiency values up to 96.5% even in part load situations saves money on electricity bills
protecting at the same time our enviroment with less CO2 consumption. Light weight and small footprint allows
easy, space saving and low cost installation. The 0.9 output power factor provides up to 15% more active power than
a traditional UPS and more load expansion. TRI X33 HE UPS systems are ideal for the protection of critical
information and telecommunications networks which can not run the risk of being powered from a poor quality
electrical supply.

HIP block diagram

Parallel Operation ( up to 8 units)

X33 HIPs may be connected in a parallel configuration to increase both the reliability of the
power supply to the load and the power available in output. Up to 8 UPSs can be parallel-connected. It is
recommended to connect units of the same power. The load that can be applied to a system with several units
connected in parallel may be greater than the load that can be supported by each individual unit, thanks to
automatic power sharing. The reliability is only increased provided that the total power of the system with one unit
deactivated remains greater than the required power. This condition can be achieved by always adding a
redundant unit. Having a redundant unit means having one more UPS than the minimum number of elements
required to power the load, so that if a faulty unit is automatically excluded
