GLOBAL UNIT : SOUTH AFRICA FIFA WORLD CUP 2010

Level: 1st Course of ESO , Bilingual Teaching.

Activity: Multicultural activity about Football and Sport around the world, as a
common element that contributes to a global culture through sports.

Aims:
1. Make our students conscious of different countries, and their names in
English language. On the other hand, to provide an introduction to the host
country: South Africa, an unknown country for most of our Spanish society.

2. Lose their fear to talk in public, in order to reinforce their personality and
personal strategies for the future labour life, in which they’ll have to explain
projects and propose the own theories before an audience.

3. Adequate their pronunciation to the native speakers when they talk aloud.
For that aim we’ll have the aid of an auxiliary of conversation from the United
States (Michael). He will encourage the students to improve their pronunciation
in order to be understood before a native speaker, and not only before a non-
native speaker’s audience.

4. Identify facts and information about foreign countries and football rules.
Learn by heart, a small passage from a text, in order to develop the ability to
memorize texts in the English Language as a fundamental strategy in their
Bilingual studies .

Timing: 3 lessons (1 hour each)

Procedure:
1. The teacher and the auxiliary of conversation provide a brief introduction
about the world Championship. Explaining its similarities and differences

translate the text into Spanish. We revise the new Structures and words,
and explain the cultural connotations that we may find in the text.

through a picture of their flags.

with the pronunciation, in order to make them sound more natural in
English.
