About Us
Anavah House is a small new-
monastic intentional community
located in the heart of Liberty,
Missouri. Once the home of lo-
cal newspaper mogul Thomas
Loudon, Anavah House—from
the Hebrew word for humili-
ty—is currently home to nine
residents, and provides food and
shelter for dozens more on a
regular basis. We believe in the

Life at Anavah House
Here at Anavah House, we strive to
live simple, peaceful lives of service
and love—like Jesus did. We enact
the Biblical practice of Jubilee found
in Leviticus 25:8-11, and share our
expenses (rent, utilities, and food)
equally with one another.
We also firmly believe in the power
of art of all kinds, and we are always
working to find ways to exercise
creativity, whether it entails repur-
posing old TVs into flower pots,
rigging a broken-down washing
machine for bicycle power, or even
sewing our own clothes.

We care passionately about people
and about the environment, which has
led us to establish the first communi-
ty garden that our neighborhood has
ever seen. From May to September,
members of the community are free to
exercise their green thumbs, growing
their own food while becoming better
acquainted with one another.
At Anavah House, we eat, live, and
worship with one another as brothers
and sisters in fellowship, and we in-
vite you join us on our mission to love
and to serve our neighbors in unity.

As an organization deeply commit-
ted to developing the surrounding
community, Anavah House is dedi-
cated to providing sustainable em-
ployment and empowerment to those
often overlooked or disregarded by
today’s workforce. We believe, as
the old saying goes, that it is better
to teach a person to fish than to sim-
ply give them a fish to eat. Therefore,
in order to better serve the commu-
nity around us, we started a small
business venture in the fall of 2005:

a high number of guests, and in or-

Our Services
delicious coffee blends. Since then,
we have acquired over 8 part-time
staff members who roast our coffee
beans around the clock. For a full list

We also operate a small thrift store,
where those in need can purchase sec-
ondhand clothing for very little cost.
We are always accepting clothing do-
nations, either by mail or drop-off. All
donations must be clean and usable.
