1. Design Calculation NO.(C-MD-MS-001-R1)
a) General:
Comments of EIPL
(i) Design of Bye-Pass Valve has not been furnished in spite of earlier comments. It is essential
for the approval of drawings. This needs to be submitted for review.
(ii) The material 3Cr13 may be replaced with 30Cr13 in the entire design.
(iii) Only the calculation of lifting eye is given instead of the entire pulling rod. Moreover, by
providing the pulling rod according to drawing no.DD-GE-MS-016-R0, it will not be possible
to pull out the gate above the deck level with pulling rod. With the provided arrangement of
pulling rod, the legs height of the gantry crane will have to be increased up to at least 13m from
deck level to the pulley center.
Or else to avoid the above problem, it is advised to provide an automatic engaging &
disengaging type lifting beam so that the gate can be taken out from the grooves without any
problem.
Reply by Sinohydro:
(i) Noted and revised, please refer to the revised calculation sheet.
(ii) OK, 3Cr13 has been revised to 30Cr13 in entire design.
(iii) The 2x320kN gantry crane is shared with other opening of gates in dam. If directly use
the automatic lifting beam, the pulley assembly of the lifting beam will interfere with the gate
slotconsidering the angle of wire rope of the pulley assembly in operation, so it need add
a pull rod to make the pulley assembly not enter the slot.
2) When the gate to be in use, first lifting the pull rod above the gate with gantry crane
and connect the pull rod with the gate lifting point, then drop the gate;
3) When the gate need lift up, first lifting the pull rod with the gate together until the
gate reach its locking location and lock the gate, then disassemble the pull rod and

Comments of EIPL
(i) The comments vide para-1-a-IV above hold good for this drawing also.
(ii) In detail B, the seal compression shown as 10 mm should be replaced with 5 mm
to avoid the damage of the seal as per book" design of hydraulic gates by Paulo C.F. Erbisti.
Reply by Sinohydro:
(i) The reply above hold good for this drawing also.
(ii) Agree to reduce to 5mm. Please refer to the revised drawing.
(ii) Since the bearing is of roller type it requires grease nipple along with grease slot will have
to be provided. In case as stated in your reply to earlier comment, provide the copy of catalogue
in support of self greasing/lubricating bearing.
Reply by Sinohydro:
(i) Side guide/guide shoe is already shown in the General drawing of gate leaf (No. DD-GEMS-017) as item 5, which is welded to the gate structure, so the gate structure drawing not need
show the side guide/guide shoe
(ii) Add grease hole in wheel, please refer to the revised drawings of DD-GE-MS-017-2-0 and
DD-GE-MS-017-2-1
Other reply for comments in drawings:
DD-GE-MS-017-1:
1) The dimension 95mm of item 21 has been shown in View B-B.
2) Location dimension for item 17 has been shown in the drawing, the detail molding
dimension is determined by lofting while manufacturing.
DD-GE-MS-017-2-0:
1) The characteristic of Spherical roller bearing please refer to the attached document.

Comments of EIPL
(i) The material of steel shown as 3Cr13 may be replaced with 30Cr13 in the entire design.
(ii) Provide the locking beam revolving horizontally on pivot to avoid any theft. Redesign the
beam accordingly.
(iii) On page 18, please provide the calculation for 5T counter weight.
Reply by Sinohydro:
(i) OK, 3Cr13 has been revised to 30Cr13 in entire design.
(ii)This issue has been replied before in other gates.
(iii) The counter weight size is 165*400*800 (in mm), The density of steel is 7.85 t/m3, so the
weight of one piece of counter weight is
G=165*400*800*7.85=0.4145 t
Total 12 pieces of counter weight is 12*G=4.974t5t.
Above has been added in the revised calculation sheet, please refer to it.
