Monthly Health Report
March 15-April 15, 2016
Health Coordinator: Saacha Dorji
The school health as usual would like to submit Monthly Health Report. This March 15-April 15 days were
full of activities. Besides, many responsibilities, like class teacher, Head of department, numbers of teaching
periods, I have devoted time to do the health activities and health works in the school. (I personally feel that,
health coordinators shouldnt be bogged down with other responsibilities and teaching) I have noted down in
series below. The purpose of these reports is to inform about the health status in school. The Monthly Health
Reports will be written very brief with pictorial description. Some of the Monthly Health Reports can be also
read from my blog page: http://saachad9.blogspot.in/
1. Medical Requisition. Since, we didnt receive all medical requisition last time. We sent medical and
non-medical requisition to the Darla BHU again. We attached a requisition of unsupplied things with
the new letter. This time too, we didnt receive any medicine. The HA verbally told me that the medical
supply is yet to receive from Phuntsholing.
2.

HPV Vaccination. On 15th March 2016, all class six girls received HP Vaccination. The HA of Darla
BHU came to the school. There were 40 girls in total. Four girls didnt receive the vaccination as there
were repeaters and they got last year.

3.

Drums inside the toilets. The health club kept drums inside the toilets. Two drums were kept for
senior girls toilets, two drums for junior girls toilets, and one bucket each for senior and junior boys
toilets. This is to clean the toilet effectively and wash their hands after they use the toilets.

4. Gave Vitamin tablets. On 14 March, we gave vitamin

tablets to 9 and below years old students. This is given
twice in a year. The class teacher filled up the form for
vitamin. The picture shows a class teacher filling up the
form.

5. Health Board. The school has health board, but it was not used effectively. I maintained the health
board. Students are asked to write any articles related to the health.

6. Kept soaps and toilet papers. The health committee in the beginning of the school asked our students to
bring soap, which cost nu. 10, and a toilet paper each. Since most of the classes have brought the said
things, we keep soaps inside the toilet and near the washing taps. We also kept toilet papers inside the
toilets and classroom. We informed that there will be class evaluation anytime, and these (toilet papers,
soaps, toilet cleaning routine, junk food policy, and others) are required in the class.
7. Personal Health Check up. Every Thursday we do health check up. We check students cleanliness like
hair, nail, dress, etc. We ask class teachers to note who ever need attention.
8. H1N1 Awareness. As there was a letter from ministry of health about possible outbreak of H1N1 in the
schools. We, in the school sensitize H1N1 flu. One of the students gave speech on H1N1, what it is?
What are the signs and symptoms? And some preventive measures. We also display letters and articles,
messages on the health board for more information. We also inform class teachers to inform health

committee if any student has signs of H1N1.The pictures below show a health captain giving massage
and letters and articles on the board.

9. Health Day. As discussed earlier, every Thursday, there will be health awareness speech or short
program. We carried out successfully. On that day, Teacher on Duty(TOD) and students morning
speakers have to speak on health. We kept Thursday as health day because we give iron tablets on
Thursday; we also checked personal cleanliness and hygiene on Thursday.

10. Cleaned water tank. The tank must be cleaned to ensure that water stored in the tank does not become
contaminated by dirt or traces of the substance the tank previously held. We cleaned and scrubbed all
internal surfaces and we washed all internal surfaces to remove all traces of detergent. The Photos
below show our students cleaning the water tank on 22/3/2016.

11. Down Syndrome Awareness. As there was a letter from ministry of health about the celebration of
down syndrome day from 20-26th March. We, in the school sensitize it. Every day one student gave
speech on down syndrome, what it is? What are the signs and symptoms? And some preventive
measures. We also display letters and articles, messages on the health board for more information. We
also inform class teachers to inform health committee if any student has this.

12. Made flower garden near the toilet. To keep toilet surrounding clean, we dug up flower garden right
near the toilet. And then we planted flowers. We have a plan to keep flower pots inside the toilets.

13. Wash station made: The health club made hand washing station near the classes of VI A,B,C, VA,B,
VIIA, B,C, and IVA ,B.

14. Help in School earthquake Mock Drill: The health committee and club health helped to conduct
earthquake mock drill. We teamed as the first aids and did carry our responsibility.

15. World Health Day: Darla school celebrated World Health Day. The day was marked with many health
and hygiene related activities. In the morning, we had the days speech by the health club members, and

there the music was played about a healthy song. In the afternoon, the health staff of Darla was
requested to give talk, and upon our request, three staff came and gave a wide coverage of health and
hygiene issue and care. Teachers and Students from classes VI to 10 gathered in the MPH for the talk.
Two health teachers gave basic health talk to the students of class pp to V in the assembly ground. They
also cleaned toilets, water tank and water sources. The photos below tell the story of the whole thing.

These are some healthy activities we did this month (Feb 15-March 15), and we will continuously try to carry
out and try to bring new changes in the school for betterment of our students and the society at large.

Thank you,
