Trailhead Scharnitz is accessible from the

south via the B177 road via Zirler Berg and
Seefeld, and from the north via Garmisch
and Mittenwald. Parking is available at the
Karwendeltler parking lot. The official trailhead is at the Karwendeltler turnoff from
the main road in the town center.
Trail features With a distance of more than
60 km and an elevation gain of 1850 m, this
route is one of the longest and most difficult.
The terrain ranges from paved roads to a
steep single track descent from Plumsjoch.
This route was rated as difficult. Riding time
is 8 hours 30 minutes.

Route description From the trailhead, ride

1 km into the valley before you turn left onto
the forest trail to Karwendelhaus (595). Continue without turns through Karwendeltal
until you reach Karwendelhaus (3 hours from
Scharnitz). Its only a short climb to Hochalmsattel. After a descent you will reach
Kleiner Ahornboden and proceed on wellconstructed forest trails through Johannestal to Hinterriss. After you have reached the
Risstal, ride into the valley until you get to
the turnoff to Plumsjoch (452) (2 hours from
Karwendelhaus). Climb to Plumsjochhtte
(elevation gain 500 m, 2 hours from the turnoff). After a rest at the hut, continue on a
steep single track descent (462) or pushing
section to Gerntal and then on a paved road
to Pertisau. Having crossed the town, proceed on a cycling trail next to Achensee until
you reach the parking lot in Maurach-Buchau
(1,5 hours from Plumsjoch).
