Evaluations at multiple sites worldwide confirmed the XDR

delivers on its promises. Caterpillar account manager for the
Earthmover Group of Michelin North America, Bruce Besancon,
explains, As part of our cost reduction initiative, Michelin
constructed the XDR with a number of unique attributes that lead
to bottom line savings. The XDR is a rugged, E4 tire that delivers
longer tread life as well as the protection and traction needed in
severe hauling conditions.
The independent action of the tread blocks on the XDR improves
the distribution of ground pressure across the contact patch, or
footprint, reducing the rate of wear. The increased tread depth
maximizes protection and tire life. Deep longitudinal and transversal
grooves improve grip and handling. The non-directional tread
simplifies tire matching for reduced inventory requirements.
The XDR range of radial tires is available for the Caterpillar 777
through 793 haul truck models in a choice of four rubber
compounds from Type A, the most cut resistant to Type C4,
designed to be cool running and capable of higher speeds.
