Now let us see how to stitch a churidar like the above. Stitching a chudithar top is easy .
Accurate measurements , some practice will help you to stitch anything well.
The above is the stitching pattern for the churidar , I've given the readymade measurement for
the above .
READYMADE MEASUREMENT
* full length = 105 cm
* Narrow waist = 39 cm
* Bust level = 25.5 cm
* shoulder = 38 cm
* chest = 92 cm
* Waist = 72 cm
* Hip = 100 cm
* sleve legth = 25 cm
measurements according to the diagram
* 1-2 = full length + 3 cm = 108 cm
* 1-6 = arm hole = (chest/4)-2.5 = (92/4)-2.5 = 20.5 cm
* 6-7 = chest loose = (chest/4)+2.5 = 25.5 cm
* 1-10 = narrow waist = 39 cm
* 2-11 = bottom = (chest/4)+10=33 cm
* 1-3 = neck breadth = chest/12 = 7.6 cm
* 1-5 = front neck = chest/8 = 11.5 cm
* u can keep the same length for back neck else back neck = chest/12 = 7.6 cm
* 3-8 = shoulder = shoulder/2=38/2 = 19 cm
Now using the below pics you can have an idea how to stitch a churidar top. Using the stitching
pattern i've drawn the pattern on a chart. If your gonna stitch in your measurement , take your
churidar and measure it with a inch tape and draw the stitching pattern.
First take the cloth, fold it breadthwise first , next fold it lengthwise . After that you can place
the stitching pattern and mark the edges using marking chalk. The material i've used has a
lining material too so first im gonna cut the lining material then the outer material. Beginers
After cutting the lining material , next im gonna cut the outer material. Be carefull that you dont
disturb the cloth. Then cut the outer material.
Next join the front pieces and back pieces by stitching them throughout the edges. Next you will
have seperate front and back piece. Next stitch the neck part using crosspiece or lining using
extra cloth. Next stitch the shoulders of both piece together.
Next cut the sleeve part, here i have used 3/4th sleeve and have taken only the outer part so
that it will be transparent. Stitch the sleeves to thearmhole. Next join the left and right sides of
churidar. Fold and stitch the openings below hip.
After the sleeves are attached the final outcome , the churidar is ready.

Churidar : An Introduction
Churidar is the most widespread outfit of women in India. It does goes well with all age of women, say from kids to grandmas. It is
popular based on its easiness to wear. It is one of my favorite dresses. In India its position stands very close to the traditional wear
of Indians, that is Saree. Now lots of varieties are there in the fashion world for the churidars. The trends had changed over years
and are still changing in each and every second.
Churidar is available in the market, both as Ready-made, Material and ready to stitch materials. Since the fit of the churidar, do
matters to us, most of us prefer churidar material rather than readymade and get it stitched by a tailor. But when comes an occasion,
where a heavy outfit is required, mostly ready-mades or ready to stitch materials are preferred. Ready to stitch materials, comes
with almost all part stitched; once we buy the same, it can be shaped as we wish.
Nowadays, the popularity of churidar had increased so much, that there is a tailoring shop in every nook and corner of the city. Most
of the times, because of this demands, it takes around more than one week to get the churidar stitched. Also the rates are different
from place to place. Say in Kerala itself, towards Kottayamand changanacherry, I had experienced reasonable price of say 80-100
Rupees for per stitch. But inTrivandrum the minimum charge is 180 and it will go up, if you need anything extra, say, a piping in the
hand or a design in the top etc.
Because of all these I thought to try it myself. I just got an idea of how to stitch the churidar from one of the magazines; when I was
doing my pre-degree course. I havent studied the stitching from an expert. Instead I did it by trial and error method. As it is said that
practice makes it perfect; now I could stitch better churidar, than I did earlier in my starting stage. I dont usually take the tape wise
measurement, which I had found as the major work ever in stitching a churidar. I would like to explain the steps that I follow to stitch
a churidar, hope this helps someone.

Stitching
The major portion of marking and cutting is done and now comes the stitching part. Picture 15: I got my electrical sewing machine
to get the stitching done. I have been using it since 4 years. Lets start with the bottom portion. Picture 16: stitch the bottom porting
by giving folds in the middle portion. Picture 17: Likewise stitch both legs separately. Picture 18: Now join the both legs as shown
in figure, leave some space in the top and also stitch it the folded manner, so that the cord to tie the pant can find room. Picture
19: Now the bottom portion is over. I had given a piece of the top material as an extra decoration towards the leg. You can simply
make the try by folding the same and stitching.
Picture 20: I had taken a small portion of the bottom material and had given piping towards the end of the hand sleeves. Picture
21: Stitch the neck portion along with the separately cut portion in such a manner that both sides face towards each other, later
stitch the same by making the outside portion inside the top. Picture 22: Both front and back neck are stitched as explained and I
had also given piping towards the slits on the side, with the material of the bottom cloth. Picture 23: Now the hand is stitched
towards the body, with both good sides facing each other and stitching it from the other side. Picture 24: Now join the sides from
sleeve to slit portion. The Churidar is ready to wear.
This is a pant with some gatherings near the foot. This is also known as gathering pant. This
pant has long thin legs so that you can make gatherings near the feet. I've used a sample pant
to sew it.
Now fold the cloth breadthwise then lengthwise and then place the sample pant on top of it like
shown in the above picture. You can notice i have marked the outline using marking chalk. Next
cut along the marking chalk like the one below.
Next unfold the cloth you'll get seperate two legs. Stitch the sides and join them together.
Next in the remaining cloth we have to cut the a-b part.
In the pattern the b-d part is longer than the b-g part so we have to keep gatherings in the b-d
part and make it to the equal length of b-g part( refer pattern). Thats wat i have done and made
both joining parts of equal diameter. You can see some gatherings in the b-d part. These
gatherings will come around the hip so that the cloth will comfortably fit your hip.
Next you can join them. Leave a small loop in the a-c part to pass the thread. After joining the
pant is completed.
