studies gave him an edge during preparation as well as when the final result
for JEE Advanced was declared. Physics and Mathematics are two of my favorite subjects. So, I did not really feel like I was preparing, he says. In fact,
Satvats future plan includes doing research based work in Physics.
In this interview with Careers360, Satvat shares his simple yet effective preparation strategy and how an active support system of parents and teachers
helped him crack the toughest engineering entrance exam in India.
Careers360:
Satvat:
Satvat: Honestly, I was not just confident of cracking JEE Advanced; I also
knew there was a possibility of me emerging as a topper. You need to put in a
lot of effort in an exam of such significance. I am glad my hard work paid off.
Careers360:
2015 exam?
Satvat:
It was not that tough for me. I had prepared well so I was able to
Careers360:
Satvat: In JEE Main, my score was 330 out of 360. Actually, that inspired me
to work harder for Advanced. Between Mains and Advanced- none was tough
for me. But if I had to choose, I would say that Mains had many complicated
questions compared to Advanced. Advanced was much simpler for me. Also,
Mains was lengthier than the Advanced paper.
Careers360: How did you make it possible? What was your preparation strategy and routine study period for JEE Advanced?
Satvat: I did not really follow any strict study routine. I kept it simple. I
worked on the areas I was weak in and focused on strengthening my strong
areas. Physics and Mathematics are two of my favorite subjects. So, I did
not really feel like I was preparing. I was just enjoying studying. Besides, my
teachers helped me a lot. All I had to do was revise whatever they would teach
me and do my homework for the class.
Yes, I even took lot of mock tests. That helps you to manage the time. They
also help you to know where you are making mistakes. I had done well in most
of my mock tests. So, that fuelled my confidence for the actual examination.
Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest according to you in the JEE Advanced exam and during the preparation period?
Satvat: I did not find any subject too easy or too tough. But as I mentioned
earlier, I enjoy Physics and Mathematics. So, it was easier for me to prepare
for the two areas.
Careers360:
Satvat: Well, I want to join IIT Bombay. I am thinking about taking up Computer science as my specialization.
Careers360: That is an interesting choice. So, what are your plans for
the future?
Satvat: Thank you. I have not thought a lot about that. But yes, I am interested in doing research work. Possibly, in Physics and Mathematics.
Careers360:
That was all about studies. Tell us what you do for rec-
reation?
Satvat: Honestly, I havent had much time for recreation in the last few
months. But yes, I do enjoy solving Sudoku. It is not only relaxing but also
helps stimulating your brain.
Careers360: Please share your valuable tips and message for JEE aspirants, who will be appearing for the entrance exam next year.
Satvat:
ailing from Indore, Janak Agrawal bagged All India Rank 2 by scoring an outstanding score of 453 out of 504 in JEE Advanced 2015. A
believer of a famous quote by Adolf Hitler- If you want to shine like
sun, first you have to burn like it., the topper gives full credit of his success
to the intense efforts and hard work that he put during the preparation time.
A student of Ilva Higher Secondary School, Janak, the topper from IIT Delhi
zone, finds resort to swimming and playing Table Tennis when he is stressed
after long hours of studies. The topper is a science lover and never compromised on his hobbies during the preparation time. He loves watching movies
and hanging out with his close friends to revive his mind.
In this interview with Careers360, Janak also talks about coaching classes,
which he says are important for preparation but not compulsory. Read complete interview with the topper below.
Careers360:
Janak: Thanks a lot! I celebrated this victory with my family. It would have
been impossible without my parents and sister.
Janak: To be frank, I was quite sure of cracking this exam with a good score.
My hard work is the key reason behind this amazing result.
Careers360: What is your score in JEE Advanced 2015? How was your
performance in JEE Main?
Janak: I have scored 453 out of a total of 504 in JEE Advanced. I performed
better in this exam as compared to JEE Main.
Careers360: Now that you are the topper of JEE Advanced, what do
you think was the key factor behind your spectacular performance in
the exam?
Janak: The most prominent reason behind being a topper of JEE Advanced
is that I love all these three subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. I
never felt any kind of burden during my preparation period to crack this exam.
Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest according to you in the JEE Advanced exam? How did you find the
difficulty level of exam?
Janak:
about the toughest subject, I didnt find any section difficult. However, I felt
that the marking scheme was a bit strict in the exam. Overall, the paper was
easy according to me.
Careers360: Tell us something about your family. Was there any pressure from your parents?
Janak:
sister is in the final year of her Chartered Accountancy. There was no pressure from them; rather they were so much supportive during the preparation
phase that helped me focus better during my preparation phase.
Careers360:
vanced exam?
Janak: According to me, coaching can be helpful to you, but it is not essential. One can crack JEE Advanced without coaching as well. It is like learning
a musical instrument. You can learn it by practicing diligently by yourself or
you can take help from an expert and then play it. So in my view, it is very
much possible to get into an IIT without taking coaching classes.
Janak: Of course I stayed connected with my friends during the preparation period.
I dont believe that studying for whole day only can help in qualifying JEE Advanced.
My opinion is that whenever you sit down to study, do that with complete sincerity.
Thats it! You dont need to cut off from the world to crack an exam.
Careers360:
platform? Did you turn to any recreational activity before appearing for
JEE Advanced exam?
Careers360: Please share your message for JEE aspirants who will be
appearing for the entrance exam next year.
Janak: My message to JEE aspirants is that you should not take stress at any point
of your preparation phase. Science is fun! Put all your hard work while studying and
give your 100%. To relax your mind after studying for prolonged hours, take a break
and do whatever interests you. Dont leave your hobbies ever.
Careers360:
Mukesh: Thanks a lot. I celebrated this victory with my close ones. The day
after the result I spent the entire day with my friends, watched ABCD 2 amidst
congratulatory messages pouring in from well-wishers.

Mukesh: I was very much confident of qualifying this exam with a good
rank. I thought that I would be among top 10 rankers, but I didnt expect to
secure AIR 3. So I got better than my expectation. The reason behind this was
my consistent efforts.
Mukesh: I scored 449 out of a total of 504 in JEE Advanced. In JEE Main, my
score was 325 out of 360. I performed comparatively better in JEE Advanced
although I scored more in JEE Main. The strict marking scheme of JEE Advanced made the paper quite tough but I am happy that I got through.
Careers360:
you think was the key factor behind your spectacular performance?
Mukesh: Consistent hard work is the key factor behind my success. I maintained the same excitement level during my preparation phase that I had on
the first day. I saw a lot of highs and lows in these two years but never got demotivated. In the last few months, I studied a lot and put all my energy into it.
Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest according to you during the preparation period?
11
Careers360: How did you find the difficulty level of JEE Advanced
2015 exam?
Mukesh: According to me, the question paper was easy, but the paper pattern was a bit surprising in terms of difficulty level. Moreover, the negative
marking further made the paper tough to solve.
Careers360:
Careers360:
vanced exam?
Mukesh:
met them daily. We stayed there together and studied from morning till night.
So, I was connected with my friends easily.

Careers360:
platform?
Mukesh: I have an account on Facebook, but I was not that active on it during the preparation time due to paucity of time. But as the exam is over now,
I would like to browse a bit more.
Careers360: Did you turn to any recreational activity before appearing for JEE Advanced exam?
Mukesh: I love reading books as it relaxes me a lot. Till class 10, I used
to read novels, but after that, I got busy in studying my course books only. I
also like to watch Hollywood and Bollywood movies. I have watched ABCD 2
recently and I liked it. Listening to music and spending time with my friends
also revived my mind when I got stressed.
Careers360: Please share your message for JEE aspirants who will be
appearing for the entrance exam next year.
Mukesh: I would like to suggest them that consistent hard work is an essential to crack JEE Advanced. Be focused whenever you sit down to study and
take small breaks whenever you get tired. Give your 100% especially in the
last few months and never get demotivated even if you couldnt perform well.
